' J. G. HAus GAS WATER HEATER Filed Feb. 21. 1922 Patented June 5, 1923.
JOHN G. HAUS, OF WEIRTON, WEST VIRGINIA.
GAS WATER HEATER.
Application filed February 21, 1922. Serial No. 538,358.
To allwkomitmay concern: 9
Be it known that I, JoHN G. HAUS, a
citizen of the United States, residing at h Weirton, in the county of Hancock and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas Water Heaters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in water heaters and has for its object to provide a simply constructed gas heater for hot water boilers.
Another object of the invention is to provide a gas heater for hot water boilers of very simple, inexpensive, yet very efiective construction.
With the above and other objects in View I have invented the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a hot water heating apparatus;
Figure 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional view of a hot water heater used in connection therewith;
Figure 3 is a section on line 3--8 of Figure 1; and
Figure 4 is a section on line 4& of Figure 1.
Like reference characters indicated like parts throughout the following specification and in the several views in the drawings-in which, 1 indicates a hot water boiler having a circulating pipe 2 the upper end 3 of which enters the upper wall 4 of the boiler 1, and the lower end 5 of which enters the bottom wall 6 of said boiler. Mounted upon the vertical portion 2 of the pipe 2 is my improved gas hot water heater 7 which consists of a cylinder 8 having a water compartment 9 in its upper end, into the threaded nipple 10v of which the lower end of the pipe 2* is threaded. The bottom wall 11 of said chamber 9 is provided with a threaded nipple 12 into which the upper end of the pipe 2* is threaded. The vent pipe 13 extends vertically through the chamber 9 and opens into the lower portion or heating chamber 14 of said member 8, said chamber being open at its lower end Surrounding the upper portion of the PIP? 2 16within saild chamber 14 is a as ea er connecte with a as Sn 1 1 e 17 through the fusil 18. 3k plliigli ty 3f vents 19 are provided in just below the wall 11.
From the above description it will be seen that a supply of water is always maintained in the compartment 9 directly above the heater and that the cold water passing from the lower portion of the boiler goes up through the heating chamber 15 and di-. rectly between the flames from the burner 16. Heat from the chamber 14 also passes through the vent pipe 13, thus providing a further means for supplying heat to the water in the chamber 9.
' Having described my invention that which I claim is new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is: V
1. A device of the character described, consisting of a cylindrically formed member having a water compartment in its, upper the cylinder 8 end, and aheating chamber, a boiler and I means whereby the water may have free circulation between said boiler and said chamber, a gas burner in said cylinder be: low said compartment, said means embracing water pipe one portion of which projects through said burner.
2. A device of the character described, consisting of a cylindrically formed member having a water compartment in its upper end, and a heating chamber, a boiler and means whereby the water may have free circulation between said boiler and said chamber, a gas burner in said cylinder below said compartment,.said means embracng a water pipe one portion of which proects through said burner, said water compartment having an air passage extending therethrough and into said heating chamber.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in'the presence of two witnesses.
