WATER Application filed November To all 'whom it may concern i Be it known that AnoLri-r Pines, a citizen of the United States, residing at Norfolk, in the county of Madison and State of Nebraska, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in later Heaters, of which thel following is a. specification.
This invention relates to a water heater and inore particularly to a device which is adapted to be associated with the grates of a stovewhereby the water may be heated when the stove is in use without the necessity of-having to employ the usual receptacle or kettle to contain the water, as is now cominonly used.
Another important object of the invention isto' provide a water heater in combination with the 'grate of a stove, the same being connected to a suitable stand boiler supportadjacen't the'st'ove whereby a continuous circulation of the water through the heater and boiler will be obtained, thus assuring hot water in the boiler for use whenever desired.
Another important object of the invention is' to provide a wate'rheater of 'the above mentioned character, which is of such a con'- strtfction as have each grate adapted to i su jort 'a. portion of 'the water heater, means being provided for connectingthe portions in communication with one another whereby a pc'c'iitinnous circulation of the water through 'all ofthe grates in the stove and the stand boiler associated therewith is obtained, thus'eausing the water to be heated more quibkli/.nd fieientlr.
A still further object of the invention is toprovide awater heater of the above mentioned 2chara'ct'e'r, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable, and further well adapted for the purposes for which it is designated.
Other objects and advantages will become apparent during the course of the following description.

In the drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the `nnmeral l designates an oil stove which is of the usual construction and has associated 'therewith the customary burnes 2 and the top plate or grate supporting member 3. Although I have shown in the present invention an oil stove, it is to be understood that any other stove such as al gasoline or gas stove may be used for the purposes of carrying out the principles of the present invention, and I do not wish to limit i'nyself to any particular kind of stove.
My water heater which is adapted to be associated with each grats of the stove, comprises ahs'ubstantially annular water chamber ll which has a portion 'thereof divided as shown at 5 in the drawings to provide the inlet and outlet ends 6 and 7,1'espectively, the purpose of which will hereinafter be more fully described. The annular water chamber is of such a construction as to be adapted tebe supported below the ribs 8 of the grate 9 and is furtherinore arranged ln spaced relation with respect to the rim 10 of the gi'ate. at are disposed downwardly as is clearly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings and are thence directed outwardly in opposite directions, as is also clearly illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawings, the ends of the inlet and outlet portions being threaded as shown at ll in the drawings, whereby connection may be made to the pipe 11 and 12, respectively, the former connecting with the boiler A and the latter with the adjacent pipe 6 of the adjacent annular water chamber. As clearly shown in Figs. l and 3 of the drawing, the elbow sections respectively connect the pipe sections 7 and 12 and 6 and 11'.
The purpose of having the inlet and outlet portions disposed downwardly from the annular water chamber 4 is to permit the rim 10 of each grate to be properly seated in the opening provided therefor in the top plate 3, and to also permit the pipes 11' and 12 to be properlysecured in a substantially horizontal position, whereby the circulation of the water tlierethrough will not be obstructed.
The laterally extending pipe 12 of tlie last unit of iny water heater is adapted to have communication with a suitable pipe 13 which extends vertically and which is connected at its lower end to the longitudinally extending pipe 14, the latter being supported in any suitable manner in the base of the stove and having communication with the lower portion of the stand boiler A as is clearly shown in Fig. l of the drawings, thus providing for a coinplete circuit between the outlet portion of the stand boiler through the water heaters associated with each grate and the inlet of the boiler. i The water passes from the boiler A through pipe 14 to the pipe section 13 and through' the respective heating units Vback into the boiler through the pipe 11'.
A suitablefaucet such asl is shown at B in the drawings, is supported in the lower portion of the boiler, whereby the heated water therein may be drawn therefrom whenever desired. i
The purpose lof having the inlet and outlet portionsof the water chainber 4 spaced lapart as above described, is to provide for the expansion and contraction of the water chamber in accordance with the temperature where the device is in use. If desired, when the burner is not in use and it sometimes results in the formation of condensation on Vthe pipes, a suitable pan may be supported from the pipes of the water heatei' to catch the drifippings and prevent the same from falling on the stove, thus preventing rust, as well as unnecessary dampness.
vlitfwill. thus be seen from the foregoing description, that a water heater has been provided which inay be conveniently and easily placed in operation upon any kind of stove and wherein a stand boiler is employed for providing for the supply of the water to the heater, and a maximum amount of water may be heated simultaneously with the use of the stove for heating food or the like, thus rendering a comparatively cheap and simple manner for obtaining heated water without the necessity of having to are so arranged as not to interfere with the ready access to' the burners of the stove.
From the foregoing description of the construction of my improved apparatus, it
will be seen that I -have provided a simple,
inexpensive and efficient means for carrying out the objects ofthe invention, and while I have particularly described the eleinentsV best adapted to perform the functions set forth, it is obvious that various changes in form, proportion, and in the minor de tails of construction may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit or sacrihcing any of the principles of the invention.
Having thus described my invention what-'75 I claim as new and desire tov secure by Letters Patent is:-
In combination with a stove having` a series of openings in the 'top thereof, a grate mounted in each opening andconsisting of' an annular rim and radial ribs connected therewith; of a series of water heating` units each comprising an annular water pipe supported in the lower edges of said radial ribs and in spaced relation to and within the annular rim of the grate, the ends of each annular water pipe terminating in slightly spaced apart and downwardly extending parallel inlet and outlet stems, said stems having their lower ends threaded, e1-
bow sections engaged respectively with said threaded stc-ms and having their outer ends disposcd in outwardly opposite directions, and inlet and outlet pipes threaded into engagement with the outer ends of said elbow sections and extending laterally iii opposite directions, said parallel stems and the inlet and outlet pipes of the complete series of water heating units being disposed in the same longitudinal and vertical plane,
as and for the purpose described.
