J. A. TAYLOR COLLAR BUTTON AND TIE HOLDER Filed NOV. 2, 1922 citizen of the United Patented June 5, 1923. V
ooLLaa rroN Ann TIE ai man Application'filed November 2/1922; SerialNo.5'E 5',5 8t);-
To all whom it may cancer rt: a y
Be itknown that I. J AMES A. TAYLOR, a States, residing at Waco, in the county of Madison, State of Kentucky, have invented a" new/and useful Collar Button and Tie Holder; and I do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable-others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to collar buttons and has for its object to provide in combination with the pivoted head of a collar button, an elongated pin, which pin, when the collar button is in place, prevents displacement of the tiein relation to the collar, particularly downward displacement.
A further object is to form the pin from a single length of wire, said pin' being disposed outside of the pivoted collar button head and the body formed into a loop, which loop engages expansibly within the collar button head and holds the pin against displacement. when the pivoted head is moved from a parallel relation with the base of the button the free end of the pin will be forced inwardly where it will engage the pivoted head, thereby allowing the pivoted head to be easily forced through a button hole.
With the above and the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing. described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention vmay be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of the collar button. showing the pin applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the collar button showing the pivoted head in longitudinal vertical cross section.
Figure 3'is a perspective view'showing the button applied to a collar.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the base of the collar button, 2 the post carried thereby and 3 the pivoted head which is pivoted at 4 to the post2, in
the usual manner. The elongated head 3 vis 7 provided on its underside with an-inwardly extending marginal flange 5, and disposed Also to provide means whereby other objects in view extend withni the chamb r eeetheheaa same 811-; H
ture 9 adjacent one end of the pivoted head 3 and substantially in alignment with the longitudinal center line of the pivoted head 3 and terminates'in a rearwardly extending curved pin 10, which normally engages the outer face of the head 3, when said head is at a right angle to the base in such a manner that it will not interfere with the passing of the pivoted head through shirt band and collar apertures. After the collar button has been placed in the position shown in Figure 8, it will be seen that the pin 10 will pierce the neck tie 11 and prevent down-' ward movement thereof, thereby preventing the neck tie from working downwardly.
Where a standing collar is used,'the collar is placed in position so that the pin will point downwardly and consequently when in piercing engagement with the tie will prevent upward movement of the tie. The upper end of the postv 2 is provided with a lug 12. which lug ture 13 in the pivoted head 3 when the pivoted head is moved to a position in parallel relation to the base 1, and engages the face of the head where it will'not interfere 9 extends through an aper a free end of the pin 10 and forces'the same the post 2 and consequently withthe passage of a button through a button hole or injure the hands of the user. From the above it will be seen that a com.-
vided, which is simple in'construction, may be. used in connection w th a turned down or standing collar, and one wherein the pin y I The invention having been set forth What I v is claimed as new and usefuliszbinedcollar button; and tie holder is proe p "1'. A collar button comprising a base, a
post carried by said base,.a head pivotally mounted on said post, the upper end of the post extending through an aperture in the head, a pin carried by the head and having extending across the aperture in free end of the one of its ends anchored to the head adjacent one side thereof, the free end of the pin the head, said upper end of the post forming means whereby upon a movement of the head to a position in parallel relation to the base the pin will be forced outwardly.
2. The combination with the pivoted head of a collar button, said pivoted head being provided with an inwardly extending flange on its underside, of a pin carried by said pivoted head and engaging the outer face thereof, said pin having one of its ends extending throu h an aperture adjacent one end of the hearl, an integral eXpansi-ble loop carried by the pin and disposed within the pivoted head and in engagement with the inner side of the inwardly extending flange, and means whereby during the pivotal movement of the head the free end of the pin will be forced out of engagement with the outer face of the head.
In testimony whereof I have name to this specification in the two subscribing witnesses.
