BATHING SUIT- Application led April 27, 1921. Serial No. 464,778.
To ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANATOLE FANALLE, a lcitizen of the United States, residing at New Orleans7 in the parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bathing Suits, of which the following is a speciiication.
My present invention pertains to safetyy bathing suits, and it contemplates the pro- 10 vision in a bathing suit of the type set forth, of means whereby when the suit is worn by a bather, the pouchesthereof will be automatically inflated to prevent sinking of the wearer when in the water. y
The invention further contemplates the provision of automatically inflated pouches that are so constructed and arranged that the bathing suit to which they are attached may be readily and easily folded when desired. f
` The invention inl all of its details will be fully understood from the following description and claim when the saine are read' tachment compressed to the position it as sumes when the bathingl suit is folded.
Figure 5 is a detail view of'one of the ribs of the safety attachment.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding .parts inall of the views of the drawings. y
My safety device is secured to a bathing suit'l of an)v type, but preferably of the one piece construction illustrated.
The safety attachment comprises a pouch r 2Yof air and water-proof material 3 and the said pouch is provided with an upper wall 4 and a lowe'r wall 5. TheseV walls 4 and 5 by preference terminate in points as shown in Figure l and the pouches are secured by stitching or otherwise to the -front of the bathing suit as indicated by 6.
The pouches 2 are preferably of trian-y gular shape and secured with the pouches by stitching o'r other fastening means 8 are 7 of metal or other suitable material.
The ribs are of theshape indicated in Figure `5 and are equi-distantly varranged as shown within the pouches 2 and are so iastate constructed and arranged that the pouches Vneat bundle as indicated lO-Figure i when l cause the 'pouches`` to become vbuoyant when the same strikes the water and hence the device acts automatically to prevent sinking of the bather. y
A tube 5 is arranged in the lower end. of. the pouches whereby they may be iniiated and deflated-when desired.
it will be gathered fromY the foregoing that the device is simple and inexpensive to Y w produce and through its use a bather may enter any depth of water with safety even though he or she may be unable yto swim.
Manifestly number vof the. devices may be installed onboard 0f aship in a small space and in case ofnecessity may be i i donned with facility by' a passenger.
Having described my invention, what I` claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent 1szj In a safety device for bathing suits, the combination of Aa member formed cfa single vpiece of water' and air proof material and having upper and lower walls adapted to be securely fastened to a bathing suit, ribs in' 'Y triangular shape V1n cross-section adaptedto be fastened-atfequi-distant points within the .'inember whereby it will assume a triangular appearance with respect tothe bathing suit said ribs being further constructed to bear one-upon the other when the suit is folded, and means arranged in the lower end of the member for inflatingthe same.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto'set my hand r`in witnesses. l y p ANATOLE PANALLE.
