This invention relates to the class of life preservers, and pertainsespecially to an apparatus for suspending a human body, under water and permitting diving, swimming, and other desired action of the body in sub.- merged position.

The object, of the invention isto provide a novel and peculiar divers and swimmers appliance or suit which shall fit and inclose the whole figure or human body in airtight and water-tight condition, and having means for supplying air, drinking water and food duringthe wearing of the appliance for divers use and for submerged swimming; and other submarine purposes whereby the wearer may remain submerged an unusual period of time in active normal condition. j

A further object of the invention is to provide a submarine wearing apparel or suit of such novel and peculiar construction and combination of parts as ,to afiord the wearer diving, swimming and various other movements of the body under water, and to furnish a combination of rubber and cork in such manner as ,to facilitate said movements.

Various other objects, advantages and improved results are attainable in the practical application of the invention.

- shown in the drawings, for facilitating div- In carrying out my invention, I employ preferably a body suit composed of rubber, and comprlsmga body member 1, having fingered sleeves 2; legs'3, and shoes 4. The

back of the body member is extended to form a .head-inclosing member 5 having a v1s1on glass 6, and said member 5 has a dependlng neck and chest member 7, joined with the front upper portion ofthe body member 1,,as will be hereinafter explained.

The front of the body portion 1- 1s separated vertica'lly so as to permit access of the body, arms, legs and feet, and the meeting edges of the sald separated rubber port1on are each provided with metal strips 8 having the rubber folded and secured around them so as to form a closed joint when'secured together, as by thumb screws 9. The same metal strip fastening is used for closing the joint between the breast member and the upper portion of the body member as shown at 10 mFigs. 1 and2. Inorder to vary the size of the body member as desired or as occasion may demand, I employ strap and buckle attachment 11-. The ankle portion of the legs is provided with straps 12 having a cork fin 13 to assist in swimming operations.

In order to overcome in part the wei ht of the body in submerged position, and or 86 other purposes hereinafter appearing, I socure on each of the sides of the body member 1, a cork fin 14 of peculiar shape as mg andswimming. One of the fins 14 has a chamber 15 for storing drinking water supplied through the screw plug 16, and the other fin has a like. chamber 17 for storing food. Obviously these cork fins are tightly secured to or joined with the body member 96 1, and have an outer casing or covering of rubber 18.

The head member 5 has a cork mounting 19 having an outer covering of rubber 20, and the cork is projected at'each side of the head to form fins 21 corresponding with the fins 14. The apex of the head cork has a pair of air pipes 22 extending therethrough into the head member 5, and said pipes are connected with air pipes 23 by means of couplings 24, which permit vertical movement of the pipes 22 and 23. The pipes 23 are secured to and extend through a cork buoy or float 25, andproject therefrom into a glass dome 26 having air apertures 27, for 110 supplying air to the head of the wearer of the appliance.

In order to supply the wearer with drinking water, the water chamber 15 has a pair of water pipes 28 leading from within the chamber'adjacent to the bottom and passing through the wall thereof and through the body member into the breast member, and said pipes are attached to a holder 29 having mouth nipples 30 to which said pipes are attached. The holder is free to be handled by the wearer as desired within the head and breast members.

Obviously the arms may be withdrawn from the sleeves, without opening the apliance, so as to reach into the said chamers through the body member. The water plu may be operated for supplying water wit out removing the arms from the sleeves.

It will be understood that while the position float remains unchanged, the appliance enables the wearer to assume diving, swimming and various other positions, and to remain under water an unusual length of time, and that the wearer may swim to the water surface as desired.

I do not wish to limit-the invention as to material, shape and size, but reserve the right to make such changes and variations in the manufacture and practical application of the invention as may come withinthe scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 2-- 1. In wearing apparel for submarine use,

'forming fins, air pipes extending a rubber suit enveloping the whole body to the exclusion of airand water, a fin on each side of the suit and each fin having a chamber therein means for supplying water to one of the chambers, interlor water pipes leading from the water chamber into the head of the suit, and mouth nipples on the head end of said pipes.

2. In an appliance of the character described, a waterproof suit for enveloping the whole human body, exterior projections fixed to the sides of the suit and forming, respectively, a water container and a food container, corresponding projections fixed to the head member of the suit and, spaced apart from said side projections, and leg fins corresponding with the said side'land head projections.

3. In an appliance of the character described, the combination of a .float havin an air chamber projecting therefrom an rovided with air ducts, air pipes extendmg from said chamber through the float, a waterproof suit having .a cork covering through thetop covering into the head 0 the suit, and couplings for said float and head pipes permitting vertical movement of the 'float with respect to the suit.
