Description

N JOSSELYN CIGARETTE HOLDER May 29, 1923. 1,457,251
Filed Nov. 2e, 1919 Patented May 29, 1923.
UNITED STATES' l wINs'oR'ossELYN, or CAMEL, Carmona-Trag CIGARETTE HOLDER:
4 Appiicatibn sied November 2e, 1919. serial iro. 340,759.- i'
To allwlwm 'it/may conciernen' i Be it known that I, VINSOR JossnLYNa citizen 'of the United States, and a resident,
of Carmel, in the countyof Monterey and State of California, have invented'a'new and Improved Cigarette .Holder, of which the followingis a full, clear, land exactrde.- scription. n
This` invention. relates to cigarette and cigar holders andmore particularly'to a cigarette or cigar stub ejector device :used in connection with cigarette andi' cigar mouthpieces.
`An object of the invention is yto provide al cigar vor cigarette stub or buttl ejector device whichr maybe inserted inthe mouthpiece ofthe holder for forcibly removing the cigarette or cigar stubl from the mouthpiece without the necessity of the smoker using his knife 4or other` implement forgouging and reinovingthe stub end of the burned cigar or cigarette from theholder. Itis also` an 0bject to provide an ejector devicewhich acts to clean the 'opening or channel through the cigar; or cigarette holder at the'ftime it is operated to eject the stub. a
It is a c further object. to provide a` smokers accessory of i the character 1 de-` scribed wliiclinis comparatively.inexpensive to' produce, simple to Vmanufacture, ornaimental in nature,an.d whichpositively functions toperform theaforesaid purposes.
Vith the above principal objects and advantages in view, the invention has relation to the ejector device as described in the following specification, set forth in the appended claims, and illustrated inthe accompanying drawings, wherein: j v
Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a cigar or cigarette mouthpiece with the ejecl tor mounted therein, and Figure 2 shows `a sectional view thereof. I f .l
The Figures 3, 4 and 5 disclose the three major views of the ejector device removed from the mouthpiece.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, a cigar or cigarette holder of conventional and ordinary design as is in daily use is designated by the reference character 7. This holder is constructed of any suitable 4material provided with a smoke channel 8 drilled through the stem 7 and with an enlarged bore 9 formed in one end of the holder. The cigar or cigarette is thrust into the bore 9 and frictionally held during the smoking period.
- It the purpose of this invention to pro-I .j
vide av device 'which acts to 'positively remove the stubf'orv unsmoked end from the bore9 and withthisvin view the-ejector de` vice constructed in accordance with myinl' vention comprises an ejectorvwith a hook on onerend placed 'within the holder "to forcibly:
remove the stub displaced by the finger of the smoker.'` lA more detailed descriptionof the ejector Ashows t a spring arm 12 'provided on one endv with a' scraper 14 and lontthe other end with a hook'15. v A stop 16 is made on the .ejector between the hook l15 [and spring arm 12. The-stop'w16;.is'.made; b v
bending'the spring arm712fto1form5an in? clineor any abutment adjacent -the vhook-115 in order that the cigar orcigarette may not f be thrust'by the stop 16` when inserted in the holder.
` The ejector deviceisinserted holdery 7 l as shownin Figure 2` by thrusting the scraper endA 14 into the smokechannel;
so@v f within the bore 9. VThe-*stop 16 thereforeVK blocks' the: bore 9 l lagainst eifrcessive inward movement: of a cigarette within' the l holder. Thestop `1 6-isso arrangedlasto adequately admitv ofthe insertionl of la cigarette to 're-,k
tainit within-the holder but wi'lLpre-vent the vcigarette from being thrust too far into the bore 9 as to prevent the burned end lfrom being ejected by the smokenj In use, the finger or thumb of the smoker I will grasp the hookl Aand move it outwardly, at which time the burned end of v the cigarette or cigar is forcibly ejected from the bore 9 by the actionjof the stop 16 moving against v f the unburned end or stub. At the same time the scraper 14 acts to scrape land clean the channel 8 of burned. residue or injurious matter which may collect in the channel 8` incident to the combustion of tobacco. The device is therefore capable of cleaning out the holder simultaneouslywith the ejection of the burned stub. ci
The ejector is constructed of any suitable material, preferably spring brass, spring cop'- j per, spring nickel, or any non-corrosive, metallic material having sufficient resiliency `to enable it to conform to the bore of the mouthpiece when thrust into position. It is simple in design, .formed of one-piece maten rial, and incapablev of getting out ofworking order. The design, shape and sizeof the spring arm 12 is such that the passage of the smoke through the channel 8 will .not be impeded. The use of the device renders it unnecessary for the smoker to use his iingers or other means for stubs from the holder. The combination ejector and cleaner Will-likewise be adapted for use in connection with pipe stems for cleaning out the burned residue which frequently collects in the stem of a pipe. The invention is presented to fulfill the needs felt for a smokers utility'device of the character described. I
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as nenT and desire 4to secure by Letters Patent is l. The combination With a cigar or cigarette holder having a longitudinal bore therethrough of abutt ejector mounted Within said'bore, said ejector being provided with a scraping element engaging the walls of the bore and-functioning to clean the same when the ejector is operated. i
2. A cigar and cigarette holder comprisingy in combination, a vmouthpiece having an enlarged bore-and a reduced smoke channel, an ejector device inserted in the mouth piece, a scraper made on the ejector for cleaning the smoke channel, and a hook formed onthe ejector.
3. An ejector for use in connection with cigar and cigarette holders comprising, a
flexible spring, a hook made on one end of the flexible spring, and a scrape-r made on the other end thereof such that the device will eject -the burned stub from the holder and simultaneously clean the holder. Y
4. An ejector device for use in connection with cigarette and cigar holders con'iprising` a flexible metallic spring arm, a stop made removing burned I on the-arm, a hook made adjacent the stop, and a scraper madeon the other end of the arm.
5.` A combination ejector and cleaner for use in connection with cigar and cigarette holders where the holder is provided with an enlarged bore for receiving the end of the cigar or cigarette, and is further provided with a reduced smoke channel, said ejector and cleaner comprising, a flexible spring piece, a hook made on one end thereof for engaging the riin of the enlarged'bore of the holder, `a scraper made on the other end thereof to project into the reduced bore, and a stop formed adjacent the hook to thrust a 'cigar or cigarette end from the enlarged bore.
` G. The combination With a cigar or cigarette holder having a longitudinal bore therethrough of a butt ejector mounted therein and being capable of reciprocatory motion with respect thereto, and a resilient scraper element carried by said ejector, said scraper engaging the Walls of the bore to frictionally retain the ejector in any one of aplurality of-predetermined positions and to clean the `Walls of said bore when the ejector is operated. y y
'7. The combination with a lcigar or cig.- arettey holder having a longitudinal bore therethrough of'a butt ejector mounted Within said bore, means carried by said ejector ,and lying without said holder to reciprocate said ejector Within the bore, and a scraper carried by said ejector to frictionally engage the walls of the bore and functioning to simultaneouslyret'ain the ejectorin any one of a plurality of predetermined positions and to frictionally cleanse said Walls is reciprocated.
when the ejector VVINSOR JGSSELYN.
