PLUG HOLDER.
Application filed October 9, 1922. Serial N'o. 593,314.
To all wlw/m, t may concern.:
Be it known that I, ELMER J. STROUT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Utica, in the county of La Salle and State of Illinois, have yinvented new and useful Improvements in Plug Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a spark plug holder, the general object of Jthe invention being to provide a device for holding ,a spark plug so that it can be taken apart by a tool, using both hands on the tool or one hand free.
Another object of the invention is to provide means whereby the holder can be fasy tened to a part of the engine or any other support. Y
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction vandin the combination and arrangement ofthe several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim'.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the sev eralviews, and in which Figure l is a view showing the device in use and attached to the cylinder' head of a motor.
Figure 2 is a similar view showing kthe device fastened by a horizontal bolt to a support. y
Figure 3 is an enlarged plan view of the device itself.
Figure 4 is a bottom view.
Figure 5 is a longitudinal sectional view.
Figure 6 is a view of one end of the'device.
Figure 7 is a view of the opposite end thereof.
In these views l indicates a plate which has a socket 2 therein of the shape of the spark plug which it isA designed to be used for. under part of the plate and this hole regis- A circular hole 2 is formed in the.`
ters with the socket so that the threaded f i V part o f the plug will Vextend through the hole with the wrench receiving part thereof .in the socket. vThe plate is provided with a reduced part 3 which has a bolt receiving opening 4 therein so that it can be bolted to a cylinder' head, as shown in Figure l or to any other support. The under side of the plate is provided withdepending parts 5 which engage the support andhelp to hold the plate against movement.V vThese depend-H mg parts are spaced apart toform a slot 6 so that thedevicecan be placedl over abolt or the like 1n order to hold the device in position when it cannot be fastened by a bolt passing through the hole 4. Each part 4 i 5 is provided with a bracing part 5 which It is thought from the foregoing descrip-1r4- tion that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent;
I desire it to be understood that I may l` make .changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of they sev-v eral parts, provided that' such changes fall within the scopev 'of the appended claim.l
rHaving thus described my invention what I claim is 'i spark plug holder comprising a plate having a socket in its upper part shaped to fit a lspark plug and a'hole in the lower y95 y part which passes through the bottom 'wall of the socket, a rear extension on the plate of less thickness than the plate. and having` f ahole therein and a depending part on the plate having .its rear face extending yat right angles to the bottom of the extension,
said depending part having 'a slot thereinA l and bracing parts connecting'the depending f' part with the bottom of the plate.
ln testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ELMER J. STROUT. c
