Description

Patented May 29,1923.
` man? Lona G. PRICE, or Los Ane-Enns, CALIFORNIA.
CASI-I BOX'.
Application led October 14,Y 1920. Serial No. 416,807.
1 denominations. The cash box, when closed,
may be locked and thusaiford convenient and safe means for carrying the cash contained therein. i
The invention will be readily understood from the following description of the accompanying drawings, in which;
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the box in its closed, locked position.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the box in open position ready to be employed for making change.
Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line- 3-3 of Fig. 1.
The box, preferably, comprises a rectangular receptacle having the bottom 1 and the cover 2. The bottom is arranged'as a tray, the base of which is provided with .the
grooves 3 extending from the front to the` rear walls of the bottom. v These grooves are substantially semicircular and are of different sizes so that coins of various'denominations may be received upon their edges within the respective grooves. The various size grooves extend to various depths within the base so that the coins of various sizes received therein will be positioned with their upper edges substantially in alinement with the top of the bottom l. The grooves?) may be divided midway of their lengths by cross partition 4, each of the grooves thus formed being arranged to contain a certain number of the coins of the various denominations.
The portions of the base between the various grooves forming the strips 5 are, preferably, graduated along their edges as shown at 6. These graduations are positioned proportional to the thickness of the coins adapted to be received in the respective grooves so that the graduations will af.- ford ready means forl counting the number of coins in a groove. The coins are, preferably, stacked in the grooves in front of partition 4 from the front edge 7 of bottom 1 toward the partition 4; and the coins in the ably, rlhe graduations 6 may be numbered .as shown at 8 in accordance with such af stack- Irie. d
' grooves in rear ofthis partition' are, prefei'-l stacked rearwardly from the partition.
ing arrangement in order to readily denote the number of coinsI ink anygroove.V
The coverr 2 comprises Aa-tray'with thetop of the cover Thistray is divided transverseiy by the partition 9 in order to form4 theelongated re` ceptacles lOadapted to contain bills. .Spring forming the-base ofthe tray.L
clips 11 maybe provided in the respective y receptacles 10 in order to yieldablyhold stacksy of bills in the receptacles; These spring clips are, preferably, arranged at one end of the receptacles,
their opposite ends the receptacles may be provided with lips 12. These lips extend from the walls forming thecoverand fromk the partition 9 at the upper edges of the respective receptacles so as to afl'ordr means for holding one side of the ends of the bills within their receptacles. `lt will thus be'seen that the opposite sides of the ends of the bills are loose so that theyv may be readily grasped for withdrawingthebills.
The cover 2 is hinged to the bottomv 1 as by the hinges 13 so that the cover may be swung downwardly over the bottom shown in Fig. 1, in order to forml a closed receptacle, or mav i the b veniently positioned for use. n
In order to prevent the coins falling from their grooveswhen the box is closed, a cover 151iits within the open edge vof the cover tray and is, preferably, hinged atitsfrear edgeV to th A edges "of the coins being Hush with the top ofthe bottom tray whenthe cover of the box.
l Vase cover tray as shownat 16. The
and at one sideof be swung rearwardly from ottom as shown in Fig. 2in order that the coin tray and the bill traywill be con-v is closed, the cover l5.willrest against the -v edges of the coins and movement of the coins in cover 15 may be provided will thus prevent their grooves. The witb'a finger aperture 17 at its swingingedge in order that it may be readily swung from one"V side to the other to obtain access to either the bill tray or the coin tray when the cash box is open for use. A. lock 18 may be provided for the box when in its closed position.
thus set forth, provides a convenient container for both bills and coinsl which, when closed, will form safe means for carrying the contents of the boxl and which when open It will be noted that the construction as i Will position the Coin and bill trays convenient for use in making Change.
The iinproved cash box will also be found especially Convenient When checking the contents of a box; since a ready means is provided for carrying the money to a een tral oiiiee so that ateller may count the coins by simply reading the graduations upon the coin grooves.
Various Changes may be made Without departing 'from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
lfhat is claimed is:
1. cash box comprisinga body, a coin tray in the body formed with grooves at various depths and of substantially seniieireular forni in cross section, a Cover hingedly supported on the body7 bill retaining' means Within the Cover, and a Cover plate hingedly supported upon the cover and arranged between the cover and the body so that when the former is in closed position the plate will engage the coins contained in the grooves and prevent movement of the latter Within the `grooves.
