OPERATING DEVICE FOR SWINGING- WINDOWS.

Be it known that I, WILLIAM SCHONFIELD, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at 8 Goring Street, St. Mary Axe, London E. C. 3, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in and Connected with Operating Devices for Swinging Windows (on which application has been made for Letters Patent in Great Britain, No. 8,877/21, filed 9th February,
1922), of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in that class of apparatus for opening and closing skylights, fanlights, casement windows and the like'in which ascrewed rod pivotally mounted on the sash passes through and is actuated by a nut pivotally mounted on the fixed framing, and is designed to provide a fitting of the above class adapted for raising and lowering skylights set at an angle to projecting walls or piers.
Briefly stated the invention comprises apparatus of the character described in which a nut is pivotally mounted on the window frame said nut carrying a bracket having mounted thereon a rotatable spindle carrying a bevel wheel in engagement with a bevel wheel mounted on a sleeve keyed to the screwed rod.
My invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a fastening suitable for skylights set at an angle to projecting walls or piers, and
Figure 2 shows a detail view of the fastening shown in Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings; the screwed rod 12 is hinged at 13 to the sash 14L and passes through a nut 15 pivotally mounted Serial No. 541,828.
at 16 to the lugs 17 of a bracket mounted on the window frame. The nut carries a bracket 18 in which is mounted a spindle 19 carrying a bevel wheel 20 in engagement with a bevel wheel mounted on a sleeve keyed to the said screwed rod 12.
In order to open or close the skylight the bevel gearing is turned through the wing end 21 of the spindle 19 consequently screwing the rod through the nut 15 pivotally mounted in the lugs 17 of the bracketscrewed to the window frame.
For raising and lowering a window out of hand reach a long arm can be fitted to the spindle 19 instead of the wing end 21.
hat-I claim is 1. An apparatus for raising and lowering a skylight set at an angle to projecting walls or piers comprising a threaded rod pivotally mounted on the window sash, a nut pivotally mounted on the window frame adapted to receive said threaded rod and driving means carried by said nut adapted to rotate said threaded rod.
2. Apparatus for raising and lowering a skylight set at an angle to projecting walls or piers comprising a threaded rod pivotally mounted on the window sash, a sleeve keyed to said rod, a bevel wheel mounted on said sleeve, a bracket mounted on the fixed window frame, a nut pivotally mounted in said bracket adapted to receive said threaded rod, a bracket carried by said nut, a spindle mounted in said nut bracket, means for rotating said spindle and a bevel wheel mounted on said spindle adapted to drive the bevel wheel mounted on the sleeve keyed to the threaded rod.
