IMPROVEMENT IN SAW-HANDLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 145,628, dated Drcember 16,1873; appltation llcd November 26, 1873.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM CLEMsoN, of Middletown, in the county of Orange and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Saw-Handles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying' drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to saw-handles, having for its object to provide a handle in one solid piece, embodying in its construction means for holding the saw, a handle for use as an ordinary hand-saw, and two additional handles projecting out from the center; and it consists in an improvement in the construction upon patent No. 135,628, granted to me February ll, 1873, as hereinafter more fully described.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which this invention appertains to make and use the same, its construction and operation will now be described, referring to the annexed drawing, which represents a side view of the handle, showing the saw in dotted lines attached to it. I
The saw-handle is made of one piece of wood with an oblong or elliptical opening, A, in the center for the insertion of the lingers of the hand. The front of the handle opposite this opening forms a swell or bulge, B, which has a longitudinal slit in the edge of sufficient depth to receive the end of the saw, the same being then fastened by means of screws a a. At each end of the piece thus formed projects a handle, C, as shown, the said two handles being on a line with the hand-opening A.
A saw-handle thus constructed allows the operator to use either one or both hands, as he may desire.
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, the handle formed in one solid piece, having bulge B, with slit for'the saw, the central opening A, and the handles C C at each end, all constructed in the peculiar form shown, and for the purpose specified.
