SELF-INDICATING TARGET.

This invention relates to seli'marlring targets of the kind which is specified and illustrated in my U. S. Patent No. 1,222,822. In the usual form of this sei'fmarking target the ring sections of the target engageimpact rods which are actuated by the impact of the bullet against the arget section, and which in turn serve to actuate the indicators.
The present invention has for its object an improvement in. the connection between the said impact rods and the section indicators. the invention also enabling the values of the several hits to be automatically registered.
This is obtained by connecting the rear ends of the several impact rods with a spider or disc, the center of which engages a. device serving to actuate the value indicator or a registering apparatus.
The indicators for the position of each hit on the target section are as usual actuated by each individual rod or by the move ment oi the connectingpoint between each individual impact rod and the spider or disc connecting the rear ends of the same.
Cn the drawing is diagrammatically illustrated a form of the invention.
1 is a target disc, and 40 indicates the tour impact rods connected with the same. 7 is the central supporting rod for the disc sections, said rod being partly broken away t'o'r the sake of clearness. 76 is a helical spring serving to maintain disc 1 in its posit-ion on the rod 7. Behind disc 1 the impact rods are connected with the auxiliary section or spider 80, the center 81 of which serves to actuate the section indicator, said center 81 performing a rearward movement irrespective of the point in which section 1 is hit, as a rearward movement of any of the impact rods 4-0 will cause a rearward movement of center point 81.
The movement of center point 81 may be utilized so as to actuate a visible indicator in the manner illustrated in my above mentioned previous Patent No. 1,222,822, or as indicated on the drawing the movement of the center point 81 may be transmitted to an electric contact device 83 by means of a pivoted bell crank lever 82 in order to obtain an automatic registration of the hit.
Claims 1. A self-indicating target comprising a target section, and an auxiliary section behind the latter, both capable of axial and tilting movement, a plurality of parallel rods connected to the sections near the outer portions thereof, and an indicating device operable by the axial movement of the auxiliary section.
2. A self-indicating target comprising a yieldingly supported annular target section capable of axial and tilting movement, an auxiliary section having a plurality of radial arms mounted axially of and behind the target section, a plurality of parallel impact rods connected to said arms and to the target sect-ion near the periphery of the latter, a pivoted bell-crank lever having one arm terminating at the axis of the auxiliary section and operable by the movement of the latter, and an indicating device operable by the movement o-fthe other arm of said lever.
