Wire Mattress Frames..
N0 145,553' Patented Dec .16,1873.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
" GEORGE V. BUNKER AND WILLIAM I. BUNKER, OF YANKTON, DAKOTA TER.
IMPROVEMENT IN WIRE-MATTRESS FRAMES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 145,553, dated Drcember 16, 1873; application filed April 28, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known. that we, GEORGE V. BUNKER and'l/VILLIAM I. BUNKER, of Yankton, county of Yankton and Territory of Dakota, have invented a new and useful Improvement in WVoyen-Wire-Mattress Frames, of which the following is a specification:
The object of our invention is to provide woven -wire mattresses with a cheap and durable frame, so arranged that they can be stretched to any required tension.
The frame is composed of two side rails, one of which is shown at a in the drawing; two end rails, b 1); two set-screws, one of which is shown at c, and a cross-piece, the end of which is shown at m. At one end of the frame the end rail 12 is firmly bolted to the side rails, while the other end rail b, at the other end of the frame, is bolted to the cross-piece m, thus enabling it to slide freely on the side rails, when pressed out by the action of the setscrews 0 0, which are small bars of iron, at
one end bent at right angles and driven into the side rails, while on the other end a screw is cut some four or five inches in length, provided with nuts and washers, which act upon the end rail.
When it is necessary to stretch the mattress, the nuts on the screws 0 c are'screwed up, thus moving out the end rail b, stretching the mattress d d.
What we claim as our invention, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows:
A frame composed of two side rails, a a, two end rails, b b, one cross-piece, m, and two set-screws, c o, for the purpose of stretching woven-wire mattresses, substantially as described, and for the purposes set forth.
