Description
W. G. ANDERSON.
I Window-Screens.
No, 145,547, Patented Dec.l6,'1873.
WiTNEEEEE. INVENrIIR.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM G. ANDERSON, OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN WlNDOW-SCREENS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 145,547, dated December 16, 1873; application filed June 17, 1873.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, \VM. G. ANDERSON, of Worcester, county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in WVindow-Screens, of
. which the following is a specification:
, the frame in any desired position. It also consists in the metallic brace used to fasten the corners of the frame together, and by means of which the size of the frame can be reduced at pleasure, all of which will be more fully described hereafter.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my frame, partly in section. Fig. 2 is a detail view. Fig. 3 is a side view of the slotted slides.
1 represents the frame, made of any desired size, which is to be covered with wire cloth or gauze, and placed in the opened window to exclude dust and insects. One of the end pieces has a hole bored through it at each end to receive a coiled spring, 2, against which the rods 3 of the adjustable piece 4 bear, and keep this piece pressed outward against the side of the window-frame, so as to hold it in any desired position. This movable piece is of the same thickness as the frame, and when pressed inward against the frame the molding 5 extends over the joint, so as to completely hide it and give the appearance of a solid frame, and it is secured to the frame by a slotted slide, 6, at each end, which allows it any desired amount of play back and forth. The different parts which form the frame 1 are secured together at the corners by the metallic braces 7, as shown in Fig. 1, which have on one side a flange, 8, which fits in a groove, 9, made in the top and bottom pieces of the frame.
These braces not only serve to firmly secure the frame together, but, should the frame be too long, by removing the moldings 5 and 10, and taking the screws out of the braces and moving them the desired distance forward in the grooves 9, and then cutting olf the ends of the moldings and the top and bottom pieces, the length of the frame can be changed at will.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. The bracket 7, having the flange 8 for fitting in the groove 9, so that it can be moved forward for changing the size of the frame, substantially as shown and described.
2. The adjustable end piece 4, rods 3, springs 2, and slotted guides 6, in combination with the frame 1, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I hereunto affix my signature this 9th day of June, 1873.
WVI-LLIAM G. ANDERSON.
