NONjSLIP DEVICE FOR HORSES.
Application filed February 11', 1921. Serial No. 444,207.
To all whom it may concern:
B it known that 1, MICHAEL HALLANAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York cit in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nonslip Devices for Horses, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to non-slipping devices for horses, and it is my object to simplify and improve the device of my U. S. Letters Patent No. 1,207,030, dated December 5, 1916, whereby it will be stronger, more rigid, less liable to become loose and lost,
capable of fitting a greater variation in the size and shape of horseshoes easily applied and removed, in which the wearing or non slipping surfaces can be cheaply and easily renewed, and which will not injure the horses hoof.
In the drawing, Figure l is a face view of one form of my improved device with one non-slip calk plate removed; Fig. 2, a sectional view of the structure of Fig. 1 on the line 22 thereof with one of thenon-slip calk plates lifted away from the device; Fig. a perspective view of one of the clamp plates and a portion 'of the turn-screw; Fig. 4:, a perspective view of one of the nonslip calk plates; Fig. 5, a perspective view of a calk plate and clamp plate made integral; and Fig. 6, a section of the structure of Fig. 5 on the line 66 thereof.
In one form the device comprises two base clamp plates 1 and 2 connected by a turnscrew 3 which has right and left threads. The tapped holes 4 and 5 extend through the clamp plates and the turn-screw is threaded up to the central hubto permit the widest possible variation in adjustment for the size of the shoe with which the device is to be used.
Each clamp platev has a thinned flange 6 adapted to go between the shoe and the hoof and a flattened body portion 7 which contacts with the inside of the shoe at 8 thereby locking the clamp plates more solidly to the shoe when expanded by the turn-screw 3 due to the four-point contact with the curvature of the shoe. The body portion of each clamp plate has a keystone-shaped boss 10 at its central part and a pair of tapped holes 11 and 12 near its ends.
The non-slip calk plates 13 and 14 correspond in general contour to the clamp plates and have calks 15, 16 and 17 on their hearing the thickness of the shoe.

Each is provided with a keystone-shaped recess 18 on its under side to engage the keystone-shaped boss 10 on the clamp plate and is apertured near its ends at 19 and 20.
In use the clamp plates are contracted by running the turn-screw into the tapped holes and the flanges 6 are slipped between the shoe and the hoof. The turn-screw is'then turned to expand or separate the clamp plates until each is in solid engagement with the inside of the shoe. The non-slip calk plates are then laid on the clamp plates with the keystonev recess engaging the keystone boss'on the clamp plate and screws 21 and 22 are inserted through the apertures 19 and 20 into th tapped holes 11 and 12 and screwed up until the non-slip calk plates are solidly locked to the shoe and clamp plates, the under face of the calk plate and the flange 6 forming a groove in. which the horse shoe lies with its. bearing surface flat against the under side of the calk plate.
By this construction the clamp plates are solidly locked to the shoe and fully supported thereby and the non-slip calk plates are firmly fastened to the clamp plates and shoe and fully supported thereby regardless of The keystones interlock and resist attempts of the calk plates to rotate or move in any direction the screws 21 and 22 from shearing strains When the/calk plates are worn down they may be quickly, easily and cheaply replaced; while the clamp plates have an indefinite life and can be easily and quickly applied or with respect to the clamp plates and relieve removed or shifted from hoof to hoof or tapered as shown in Fig. 6 to perform the functions of the screws 21 and 22, in the structure of the other figures, in drawing the fiat face 23 snugly against the face of the shoe so it will be supported thereby. The groove made by the flange 6 and the fiat face 23 is made deeper at the back end than at the front end because horseshoes are made thicker at the heel than at the toe.
In use a pair of these integral call: and clamp plates is slipped inside the shoe and the turn-screw revolved until the groove is forced as far over the shoe as it will go.
I claim 1. A non-slip device for horses, composed of a pair of opposed members each provided with means for engaging the inner side portions of a horseshoe, meansfor forcing the members into contact with a shoe, and calks on the bearing face of'each member, one of which is transverse of the member and the other two longitudinal thereof'on either side of the first calk.
2. A non-slip device for horses, comprising arpair of, clamp plates each provided with a thinned flange adapted to go between the horseshoe and the hoof, a side wall adapted to engage the inside of the shoe, means for causing said clamp plates to ap proach and' recede from one another, nonslip calk plates extending over the face of the shoeabove the clamp plates, and means for securing the call: plates to the clamp plates. Anon-slip device for horses, comprising pair of clamp plates each provided with a thinned flange adapted to go between the horseshoe and the hoof and a side wall 'ada ted to en a ethe shoeat two joints means for causing said clamp plates to ap proach and recede from one another, non slip calk plates extending over the face of the shoe above the clamp plates, and means for securing the clamp plates and calk plates together.

A nonslip device for horses, comprising a pair of clamp plates each provided with a thinned flange adapted to go between the horseshoe and the hoof, a side wall adapted to engage the inside of the shoe, a keystone-shaped boss on each clamp plate, means for causing said clamp plates to approach and recede from one another, a nonslip call: plate over each clamp plate, providedw-ith a keystone-shaped recess adapted to engage the keystone-shaped boss on the clamp plate,and means for securing the calk plates to the clamp plates,"

A non-slip device for horses comprising a pair ofclamp plates each provided with a thinned flange adapted to go between the horseshoe and the hoof, a boss on each clamp plate, means for causingsaid clamp plates to approach and recede from one. another, a non-slip call; plate over each clamp plate provided with a recess in counterpart of the boss on the calk plate and adapted to engage the same, andnieans for securing the call; plates to the clamp plates with the horseshoe therebetween. 1
