Be it known that I, BEN KING FORD, a citizen of the United States, residing at @ak Park, in the county of Cook and State `of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bedspring Frames, of which the following is a specification.
My invention pertains to novel, structural tureresides in its capacity for reversal, that.
is right and left hand use, so that one'style only of mounting need beemployed, although several are used in the complete construction.
A further aim' of the invention is to supplyy a device or appliance of this kind which isl simple in structure, vwhich is' positivelocking, which performs its functions eniciently, and which is unlikely to become in-` jured or damaged in ordinary service.
To the accomplishment of these and other desirable ends,-I have produced the appliance representing a preferred embodiment of the invention illustrated in Jche accompanying drawing to which reference should be had in connectionwith the following detailed description and throughout the several views of which like reference characters refer `to the same parts.

5-5 ofrFigure Turning to the several views of this drawing, it will be readily perceived that the cylindrical, tubular or hollow side-bar 10 of the bed-spring frame is equipped at each end (only one being shown) with a. cast-l metal .standard or bracket 11 on the corre-v sponding ones of which an appropriatecross y or end bar 12 is mounted inthe usual way,
the metallic fabric 13 for the bed-springbeing connected to suchbar bymeansof the customary, horizontal, helical springs 14;.
Near each end of the bed-spring frame and above its tubular side-bars 10 there is va hollow or tubular cross-barl, each end of which is equipped with a cap or closure 16.
Above yeach frame element 10 each such member 15 is encased in a sheet-metal sleeve 17- of inverted U-shape, the parallel legs of such part extending down through slots 18 in a sheet-metal plate 19 and having' their portions 2O and 21 below such plate bent outwardly in opposite directions to securely 'fasten the elements rigidly together.
Thus these united parts forma socket slidingly accommodating thetube or hollow rod 15. v c
Theplate 19 has. downturnedl ends ordepending flanges 22` and 23 equipped' with registering or aligned horizontal slots 211KV and 25 receiving aL flat bar 26 supplied with integraloutstanding` ears or lugs 27, 27 to limit the amount of lengthwise play of the bar in the slots and to prevent its withdrawal.`
As is clearly depicted in the drawing, the. outstanding part of such bar is designed to f rest on the top face of the bedstead side-rail 28, which in the present instance is shown las being of angle cross-section.
The slot 24 at the-center of its top margin has a downwardly-projecting toothor lug 29 adapted to fit in any one vof a series or group. of aligned holes or perforations 30 `along the center of bar 26 to maintain the latter in adjusted position with the properportion thereof projecting outwardly over the side-rail of the bedstead.
Such capacity :tor ready adjustment enables the bed-spring to be used with facility on bedsteads of diiierent transverse dimensions, that is to say, those Whose side-rails are spaced apart different distances.
rlhe element 19 is considerably wider than the flat bar 26, as shown in Figure 2, and the two opposite side vportions of the former are each supplied with three spaced holes, 31, 32, S25-$4, 35, 36, the middle one 32 and 35 of each group being disposed centrally of the plate.
Such aperturedv plate 19 is connected to the corresponding standard or bracket 11 by va -pair of parallel, substantially-hori- Zontal coil-springs 37 and 8S, the opposite hook ends or which take into the holes 31 and 32 andA loops or eyes 39 and i0 or a fastener e1 mounted on the bracket in any convenient or approved fashion.
The center hole 35 at the other side of the plate receives the hook end of along rod or wire i2 fastened in like manner to the companion hole of the other plate at the opposite end of the bed-spring.
rllhese two somewhat-flexible rods or Wires 42 `at the opposite sides of the bed-spring and of which only a fragment of one is shown .in the drawing support aplurality or' upright spiral-springs lr-8 in a well known manner positioned beneath the center portion or section ot' the itabric 13 to yieldingly supportthe latter against undue sagging or deiiection.
Thus the two cross members 15 at the opposite ends of the bed-spring through the adjustable end structures described rest at their opposite ends on the side-rails of the bedstead and the bed-spring as a whole is yieldingly or loatingly supported on these by the springs 37 and 38 and in part by the wires 42 which assist in carrying the Central portion of the bed-spring and its load through the spiral-springs 48.
rThe weight or" the bed-spring maintains the tongue or linger 29 in the selected hole 30' thus assuringthe desir-ed position of the plate or iiat bar 26, but if at any time it is required to change the adjustment of such element, this may be easily accomplished by temporarily removing the load from such bar and positioning it lengthwise in the required place in which it will thereafter be maintained by the locking lug 29.
lt will be seen that by providing each side of the part 19 with three holes, the whole supporting structure comprising the associated elements 1'?, 19 and 2G, maybe used at either end of either side of the bedspring` the appropriate holes being used for the attachment of the helical springs and the wire, whereby there is no need of making right and lett hand structures;

The invention is not limited and restricted to the precise and exact details of construction shown and described and these may be modified within comparatively wide limits without departure from the heart and essence oit the invention and Without the sacrifice or any of its substantial benefits and advantages. i

A mounting for' afbed-spring frame adapted to rest on a bedstead side-rail, comprising in combination, a plate having de-A pending slotted end flanges, Vone of said slots having locking tongue integral with the 'flange projecting into such slot, a supporting adjustable in said flange slots and having a series of holes,any one of which is adapted to receive said tongue to maintain the bar in adjusted position, a transverse element et the bed-spring, and means mounting said plate and bar on said element;

4. ln a bed-spring structure of the charaeter described, the combination of a side'- bar for the bed-spring frame, an end bracket secured to said side-bar, a cross end bar mounted on said bracket, a metallic. fabric fastened to said end bar, a spiral spring ing ends taking in the end holes at one side of Said plate, a fieXible Wire fastened in the middle hole of the group of three at the other side of said plate and assist-ing in carrying said spiral spring structure, and a fiat supporting bar adjustable in 'said flange slots and adapted to rest on the bedstead .side-rail.
