* UNITED STM-151s ATHOIVIAS H. WRIGHT, F LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA. y
TURNTABLE.
Application filed September 15, 1922. Serial No. 588,432.
To all iwlwm t may concern.:
Be it known that I, THOMAS H. WRIGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Turntables, of
which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to turn-tables, and
moved onto any one of a plurality of mono-.
rail tracks.
Although I will describe only one form of turntable embodying my invention, and will point out the novel features thereof in the 5 claim, it is to be understood that various 2 without departing from the spirit of the invention and the spirit and scope of the appended claim. Y
In the accompanying drawings,
Figure 1 is a view showing in top plan one form of turntable embodying my invention in lapplied position with respect to a plurality of mono-rail tracks; l
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view of the turntable shown in Figure 1 with the track section turned to a right angular position with respect to Figure 1.
Referring specifically to the drawings, in which similar reference characters refer to similar parts, my invention in its present embodiment comp-rises a base of circular form constructed of any suitable material such as concrete or the like and comprising a central portion 15 and a peripheral portion 16, the two being connected by a bottom vportion 17. The central portion 15 is formed with a depending hub portion 18 provided wit-h an opening in which is adapted to be journaled a king pin 19 connected 'ment over 'the track 21, and to this end the changes and modifications may be madev A.tion of the supporting structure for the to a carriage upon ywhichr a section ofmonorail track is adapted to be supported. The upper edge of the peripheral portion 16 is provided with an annular metal track 20, and similarly the upper edge of the central portion 15 is provided with an annular 55 track 21.
The carriage upon whichI the section of mono-rail tra-ck is supportedmvay be. of any suitable form and inthe present instance n comprises a plurality of transversey beams 22 and 23., the beamsI 22 being arranged adjacent each other and connected by a beamL 24. The beams 23 are so disposed as to supf4 y port rollers or wheels 25 so as to move over the track 20, it being particularly notedv that the axles of thev wheels are disposed in divergent relation'tof each other so that the rollers can occupy proper positions upon the trackv 20. The beams 22 carry rollersor wheels 26 which are adapted for move- 70 axles therefor are disposed in divergent Ie-y i lation to each other. f,
The mono-rail track section which is supported upon the beams 22 and 23 is of the. sameconstruction as that disclosed in my copending application iiled September 15th, 1922, Serial No. 588,430, and the construc-l track section is such as to rigidly connect the several beams 22 and 23. The king pin 19 is adapted to extend through a beam 24:. comprised in the supporting structure for the track section, and it thus serves to p-rovde a pivot for the entire carriage about which the latter rotates upon the base.
In practice, the track section ofthe turntable can be moved through the medium of the carriage to occupy any desired position to connect stretches of mono-rail track 28 with each other or to reverse the position of the mono-rail car with respect to any one of the tracks. During movement of the carriage, the rollers 25 and 26 move over the tracks 20 and 21, respectively, and it is to be` particularly noted that the rollers are of frusto-conical form, while the tracks are inclined towards the axis of the table, so
that uniform traction between the rollers and tracks is secured and friction between the two reduced to a minimum.
I claim as my invention:
A turntable comprising a base formed with plastic material and including a central annular portion, a peripheral annular portion, a bottom portion connecting the two at their lower edges, and a hub portion disposed axially of the central portion, tracksy on the upper edges of the central and peripheral portions, a carriage including a king pin journaled in the hub portion and rollers movable over said tracks, and a mono* rail supported on the carriage.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
THOMAS H. VRIGHT.
