' r devices and the ballast discharged ballast, and ready for use, the lower end 1 being drawn up into the interior of the bag, and by means of a. loop 3 attached to e holding and releasing device l, which may be in the shape of a hook or other suitable means.
lVhen it is desired to discharge the ballast from the bag the holding and releasing device is disengaged from the loop 3, whereupon the welght of the ballast forces the lower slid of the bag downward and outward, into the position shown in Fl 1 when the hellast Will be discharged the discharge opening 3*. A
Fig. 3 shows a modified form of the in vention in which a section of hose or pi 5 is attached to the be at a point 7Q Fig. 3 also shows means W ereby the quantity oi ballast discharged from the bag may be regulated.
Fig. 4 shows a pipe 8 attached to the edge of the discharge 3 of the beg for the purpose of directing the discharge of bellest from the bag and also holding the discharge opening 3 normally open.
Figs. 3 and e also show means whereby the quantity of ballast discharged from the bag may be regulated, which means consists of a pulley 9, 51nd a rope or cable vhich runs over the pulley 9, one end of the rope or cable being secured to the loop 3 of the beg, while the other end extends to e point within easy resch of the operator.
In operation when the discharge opening T is lowered to the desired heightybelow the level of the ballast in the bag, the ballast Will be discharged until the level of the ballast falls below the level of the discherge opening, when the discharge of hallsst will stop.
Referring to the operation of the invention shown in Figs. 3 and 4, by paying out the rope or cable 10 the upper end of the pipe 8 is lowered to the desired height, below the level of the ballast, when the ballast will be discharged until the level of the ballast falls below the level of the pipe 8. Thus it will be seen that by adjusting the position of the discharge opening 3" the quantity of ballast discharged may be regulated.
