Be it known that we, VVINIFRED VIOLET BEDFERN, 'stenographer, and. ALFRED EDWAR BEDFDRN, civil engineer, citizens ofCanada,
5 residing at Victoria, in the Province of British Columbia, in the Dominion of Canada, have jointly invented a new and-- useful attachment named. a Finger Guard for the Line-Space and Carriage-Return Levers of "Typewriters, and do hereby declare the following the same.
It consists of a pad of rubber having a strap of the same material at its back attachedto the two sides. It is intended to be slipped over that portion of the line space and carriage return lever which is struck by the finger, to accomplishwhich the strap is stretched. The pad is held in place by the tension of the strap.
to be a specification of Its purpose is to act as'a cushion between the finger and the metal of which the lever is composed, and prevent bruising of the finger through continual contact with metal when the typewriter. is in use.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Figure 1 shows the face of the pad is struck by the finger, the line A C B D giving the outline.
' Figure 2 is an illustration, of the position of the pad 'on the finger piece of the lever when in use, showing the same 'face A C B D. The lever is denoted by the let,-
5 ters F G H, the portion between the pad at the back.
which and strap being, designated dotted lines.
7 Figure 3 is a'section on the line A B, Fig.
1, showing the pad of rubber and the strap Figure 4 is a side view, the position of the hole between the pad and strap being noted by dotted lines. Figure 5 is a side view of the pad in place on the lever of a typewriter, the pad being marked by theletters C L M N P D, and
I the lever by FG H. The dotted lines indiportion of the lever hidden by the cate that rubber.
, What we claim as our inventionand desire to secure by Letters Patent is thereof, said lever having a thumb or fin-f ger engaging portion: a resilient pad hav- Ing an area corresponding to said thumb or finger engaging portion and one or more loops integral with said pad adapted to surround the thumb or finger engaging port10n and retain the padin contact with said portion. I
In testimony whereof, we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
