The approximate position of the inside edge of the rim or flange is shown by dotted line F.
Dotted line G- indicates the approximate extent of the depression under the rim or flange.
Figure 2 is a side view of the finger piece of the lever with the pad in place.
Figure 3 is a section on the line A, B, Fig. 1, of the finger piece and pad.
Figure 4: shows the finger piece of the lever without the pad.

Figure 6 is a section on the line ii, 13, Fig.
Figure 7 is an outline of the pad.
Figure 8 is a section on the line C D, Fig. 7.
Figure 9 is a section on the line A B, Fig. 7.
The improved line space and carriage return lever comprises a finger piece having a raised rim around the sides and a depres sion inside the rim. A rubber pad covering the face of the finger piece is fitted into the depression; and is held in place by a shoulder which projects into the cavity un der the rim of the finger piece. The pad may be made additionally secure by the use of cement or other adhesive mixture; but if only held in place by the rim it may easily be replaced when worn out. The rim need not go completely around the finger piece, but would vary for different shapes of finger pieces.
i/Vhat we claim as our invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a line space and carriage return lover of a typewriter, said lever having a thumb or finger engaging portion: an undercut recess in said portion and a resilient member having a pad to overlie said thumb or finger engaging portion and an integral lug corresponding to the recess and adapted to be received thereby.
