IMPROVEMENT IN BRlDLE-BLINDS.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that l, JAMES PATTERSON, Jr., of Bangor, in the county of Penobscot and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bridle Blinds or Winkers; and I do hereby declare that the following tion, in Which- Figure l shows a plan, and Fig. 2 an edge view, of my device.

My invention consists of an attachment to the blind or Winker of a bridle, by means of which it may be readily and easily attached to the cheek-strap. By my device I avoid the use of the loop, and econoinize in the length of material for the cheekstrap, as Well as save much time and labor.

Referring to the drawing, a shows a Winker or blind, to which is attached, at b, a metallic plate, by rivets f.4 This plate is provided with loops c c at each end, through which passes the cheek-strap d, as Shown in Fig. 2. The plate b and its loops c c may be modified as taste may dictate; but I think that the form of loop shown in the drawing will be found preferable in practice, as it enables the blind to be adjusted and held at any required height on the strap by simply sliding it up or down. This feature of adjustability allows the upper end e of the cheek-strap to be seWed to the crown-piece, the joint being concealed .by the rosette commonly used. The lower part of the strap may be attached to the bit in any convenient manner.

Blinds or Winkers are now manufactured in quantities for supplyin g harness-makers. They can be furnished with my invention ready attaohed at a small advance, and thus save much labor. Hard or vulcanized rubber may, perhaps, be substituted for the metal plate, but this I should regard as a mere equivalent.

I do not claim a metallic cheek-strap, as shown in the patent of J.. C. Baxter, issued October 29,1867. My device is attached to and forms a portion of the winker, and a leather oheelcstrap separate from the blind is used, upon Which the Winker as improved is adjust-able, so as to be raised or lowered, as herein set forth and described.

Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

In combination with a blind or winker, the metallic plate b, having loops c c therein, through which the cheek-strap passes, said blind being adjustable upon the cheek-straps, as herein described and shown.
