To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL GLENN, a citizen of the United States, residing at De troit, in the county of Wayne and State of;
Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garbage Receptacles, of whichthe following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanynent and immutable to the elements and which may be shipped to the point of destination in knocked down form and conveniently assembled.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the deposit and removal doors partially open;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a similar sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 4-4; of Figure 1; and
Figure 5 is a detail vertical sectional view showing the method of hinging the deposit and removal doors to the body.
Referring more Iparticularly to the drawing, all parts as s own, with the exception of the deposit and removal doors and their mountings, are made of cement of about the proportion of two parts of gravel, two parts of sand and one part of cement, and which is preferably treated in any suitable manner to make the same water proof. The container comprises a base 1, sides 2 and 3, a back 4 and a top bridge piece 5. All such parts are preferably reinforced with embedded wire in the form of netting, crossed rods or the like, and the base 1 has its upper surface inclined toward the front to provide a shoveling surface 6 by which the contents may be readily removed, as will be understood.

The back member 4 has its side edges provided with doye tail ribs; ldwhichfenteri corresponding grooves .14 formed in the rear inner surface of the side members 2 and 3, as shown in Figure 4:.
The upper edge of each side member is cut away to produce a recess '15 in which is seated the connecting top slab 5 which'overhangsthe front inclined edges of the side I members, as shown, and is connected to the side membersby the bolts 16 which are em- .bedded in the side members, as will be readily understood.v
Immediately in the rear of the top slab 5 I preferably secure by bolts 17 a plate 18, and forwardly of the plate and embedded in the upper edges of the side members are hinge hooks 19 whose forward free ends bear against the plate 18 and prevent removal of the deposit door 20 which is hinged upon the hooks 19, as is clearly shown in Figure 5 Secured to the forward inclined edge of the side plates and abutting the overhang of the slab 5 is a plate 21, and below this plate and embedded in the forward edge, of the side plates are hinge hooks. 22, whose upper free ends contact with the plate 21 and prevent removal of the door 23 hinged to the hooks 22, as shown.
As before stated, the parts are all shipped to the point of destination in knocked down form, and are assembled by first placing in the grooves 10 any suitable type of cement, and then first placing the side members on the flanges 7 with the bolts 12 engaged in the apertures in the side members, a proper quantity of cement of any suitable character is then placed on the dove tail ribs or in the dove tail grooves and the back member dropped into position, or if desired, liquid cement may be poured between the ribs and the grooves after the back has been properly engaged with the side members. The slab-5 is then placed on the bolts '16 and suitable clamping nuts applied thereto, and the doors 20 and 28 applied to .thehooks, after which the plates 18 and 21 are bolted to the top and front edges of the side members,
by the bolts 17' and 24:, as will be readily understood. The cement connecting the sides with the base and the back with the sides and the base which overflows is properly pointed up both inside and outside the receptacle so that perfectly watertight edges are made, but it will be noted that the flanges 7 8 and 9 are suflicientlyhigh to retain any quantity of liquid which would be ordinarily contained in garbage.
Asshown, both doors and 23 are constructedof metal and provided with mar- "ginal side flanges 25 which overlap the top and forward edges of the side members so as topreve'nt the escape of any odor. They are also provided with handles 26 by which they ma be manipulated.

A garbage'reeeptacle comprising a bottom,
side and end walls, plates havingtheir ends extended at right anglestothe major portion of the plates to provide flanges, one of said plates being v ngaged with the top of the side walls, the flanges of said plates engaging the edges of said walls to assist in supporting the walls, the remaining plates being engaged with the front ends of the side walls, the flanges of the second mentioned plates engaging the edges of the side walls to assist in supporting said Walls, means securing said plates to the walls, and a cover plate hinged to each of said plates remote from the hinged connection of the adjacent plate.
