The vertical movement is produced for building up the yarn on the holder and such vertical movement is pro- "luced in any of the well-known manners and as this forms no part of my invention illustration and description thereof'is eliminated.
The holder is preferably a tubular column as shown and is adapted to be pressed or threaded at its lowerendl into a driven cap portion 9 havingr an integral collar 8 and also having the lugs 10 on itslower face.
I have illustrated butl two of the lugs 10 but do not wish to confine myself to any particular number thereof.
This cap or driver 9r for the tube 7 is provided with the lugs or projections 1() in order that said lugs may take into registering slots 11 of the pulley or member 12, and the cap 9 is machined on its outer surface so as to allow a floating or sidewise movement of the cap with respect' to the spindle, and thus eliminate friction between the spindle and tube 7 incidental to rotation of the tube about the spindle.
The pulley orl cap 1.2 is a veryy important feature of my invention-and threaded or pressed on the upper end thereof is a cap 14 that is also interiorly machined to permit loat'ng of the tube 7 and ca a or driver 9 to eliminate friction between t e spindle and said elements.
Manifestly rotation of the pulley 12 will be attended .by rotationv of cap 14. This cap' 14 is provided with the integral portion 1'5 and collar lugs, orflange 13 and in its upper surface oil apertures may be provided in order to permit of introduction of oil into the floating space.v within the cap 14.
As shown in Figures 5 and 10 the pulley 12 is provided with an upstanding portion 16 whereby a flange is formed around the pulley and by reference to Figure 3 it will be apparent that the cap 14 bears against the flange or pulley 12. This cap 14 is by preference interiorly machined to assist in the iioating movement of the tube 7 and its appurtenances.
At its lower end the pulley 12 i-s provided with a portion 17 similar to the portion 1,6 and on its outer surface the pulley 12 is machined as indicated by 23. Manifestly the machined portion may be round to receive a round belt or may be iiat to receive a flat belt. In this connectionv I might state that the machined surface 23' may be of any type compatible with its purpose and I dovnot wish to be confined to any particular shape of machined surface as it is proposed to use the same in connection with any shape. size or style of belt 24.
The pulley 12 is provided with the chambers 25 and 26 that act in conjunction with certain other elements of the invention, as
a ball race for the balls 2T and pressed or threaded on the lower end of pulley 12 and abutting the portion 1T thereof is an oil cap 18 havng the base 19 and formed interiorly of the cap and extending parallel with the outer upstanding portion thereof is a wall 20. A chamber is formed circumferentially of the cap by the wall 2() and in said chamber, I insert suitable packing 21 in the form of a felt washer and superimposed on the felt washer 21 is a washer 22 (Figure 3).
In order to forni with the upper chamber 25 of the pulley 12, the race-way for the upper'balls 27, I provide the cone 28 and to form with the lower chamber 26 of the pulley 12 the raceway Jr'or the lower balls 27, I provide a cone 29. These cones are pressed or otherwise secured to the sleeve having the shoulder 32 ot my novel device and the sleeve 31 may when occasion arises be provided with oil holes to receive oil direct from the spindle 1 and the sleeve 31 is further adapted to be pressed on a bushing 31 and said sleeve may be provided witlrtlie threads to receive. cones 28 and 29 or said cones may be pressed on the sleeve in the discretion of the manufacturer.
Provided longitudinally in the sleeve 31 is a key-way slot 33 and arranged on the sleeve is a lock-washer 34 having a projection or tongue that enters the key-way slot 33 and said lock-Washer 34 is also provided on its outer peripheral surface with a series of notches 36. Thisv latter provision is made in order to permit the tongue 37 of the cone 29 to enter one of the notches 36 of lock-washer 34 and thereby lock these elements to each other.
The threads at the lower end of the sleeve 31 are adapted to receive a threaded collar 38 and extending therefrom is a pin 39 having the downwardly directed portion. This pin at its inner end forms a washer and may be provided with a notch to enter the key-way slot when occasion demands.
A cone shaped cap 40 is disposed below the collar 348 and is provided with the member 41. This cap 40 as well as collar 38 form no part of my invention but are suggestive of elements that may be used in connection with the device.
It will be gathered from the foregoing that' the sleeve 31, cones 28 and 29, lockwasher 34 and bushing 30 are connected with each other whereas the pulley is inde- MiN" In the practical use of my novel anti-friction means in connection with bobbins the bobbin or spool as well as other elements of the device are raised and lowered by means foreign to this invention incident to the building up of the yarn on the spool. It will be seen that when the spool and tubing are rapidly rotated by pulley 12 the said operation will not only be frictionless to a great degree but will also be even atall times and this prevents the exertion of too muchpressure on the yarn at certain times and the consequent breaking of the yarn.
The device when used on spinning machines requires little or noA attention and be-' cause of its construction and arrangement will withstand a great amount of rough usage without getting out of order. The pulley moreover, reduces the strain on the belt which in itself is a great itemvof saving and because of its construction it may be employed on any character of machine or Work to which it is applicable.
I have endeavored to set forth the construction and operation of my device as applied to a spinning machine or the like but in this connection I would distinctly have it understood that the construction of the antifriction pulley constitutes the essential elementsv of my device.
In practice any form of locking means -for the sleeve 31 and cone 29 may be employed and in thefuture practice of tlie invention such change or modifications in the size and CJI relative arrangement of parts may be made as fairly fall within the scope of my appended claims.
The holder shown in Figure 14 comprises the tubular portion a, that is rolled at its lower end 7) and may also be rolled in the longitudinal center of the tube as shown, and this will produce a. running fit of the spindle and holder at certain points and thus relieve friction throughout the entire length of the spindle where it is covered by the holder.

Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In anti-friction means for bobbin holders, the combination of a spindle, a bushing surrounding a portion ot' the spindle, a sleeve adjacent the bushing, a longitudinalkey-way slot formed in the sleeve, a cap secured to the vlower end of the sleeve, notches formedvinthe cap, and a closure threaded on thesleeve, la washer arranged in theclosure, ay cone having aprojection that i takes into one of the notches of the cap; said closure being arrangedy on the sleeve, a locked washer interposed between the cone and cap and having a tongue that enters the key-way slot, a pulley surrounding the sleeve and movable independently thereof,
chambers arranged interiorly of the pulley,` a cone secured to the upper end of the sleeve within one chamber of the pulley, anti-friction balls arranged within the chambers of -the pulley and bearing on the cones, a' cap arranged on the lower open end ofthe pillley, slots' formed in the upper face of the pulley, a cap having' projections that take into the slots, a tube that surrounds the spindle and secured to the cap; said cap and tube being so constructed and arranged that they loat with respect to the spindle and pulley, and a cap arranged on the opposite open end of the pulley and surrounding the cap of the-tubing. l l

In a pulley, the combination of a machined outer surface, slots formed in the up- `per end of the pulley, race-ways formed in the pulley, a sleeve surrounded by the pulley, cones arranged on the sleeve and mov.- able therewith, a cap secured to the sleeve, locking means arranged on the sleeve and means for 4securing one cone to the locking means, and anti-friction means arranged in the pulley.

In means for the purpose set forth, the combination of a bushing, a sleeve secured thereto, a slot formed in the sleeve, an oil cap arranged on the sleeve, a washer arrangedon the sleeveand secured thereto, a cone secured to the sleeve and washer, a second cone arranged on the sleeve, a pulley surrounding the sleeve, race-ways formed between the interior of the pulley and the cones; said pulley being independently rotatable with respect to the sleeve, slots formed in one surface of the pu ley and means adapted to rest in the slots in a comparatively loose manner, whereby rotation of the pulley will be attended by steady rotation of said means.
