"TOILET VENTILATOR.
FILED MAY 27.1922.
Patented Mar. 2Q, 1923,
UNETED FATENT FFECE.
FRANK C. RIBLEY, OF NORTH TROY, NEW YORK.
TOILET VENTILATOR.
Application filed May 27,
T 0 all w 720m itmay concern fie it known that I, FRANK C. Ric-Liar, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Troy, in the county of Rensselaer and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Toilet Ventilator, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bowl ventilators, the primary object of the invention being to provide novel means for ventilating a. bowl while the same is being flushed.
Another object of the invention is to provide a valve member associated with the venting pipe to control the passage of fumes therethrough, the Valve being operated by movement of the cover.
ith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the inven tion.
Referring to the drawing The figure illustrates a sectional view through a bowl and ventilating system constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Referring to the drawing in detail. the reference character 5 designates the bowl which is of the usual construction, the same being formed with extension 6 which has connection with the pipe section 7 that provides communication between the flush tank 8 and bowl 5.
The vent pipe is indicated at 9 and is designed to carry off the fumes from the bowl 5. A pipe 10 has one end thereof extending into the vent pipe 9, the opposite end thereof which is indicated at 11 being tapered and disposed adjacent to the openin 12, directly under the seat 13.
@perating adjacent to one end of the pipe 10 is a hinged valve member 14 adapted to 1922. Serial No. 564,186.
move to a position to open the pipe 10 when the cover is in an open position.
The cover which is indicated at i5 is of the usual construction, the same being hingedly supported as at 16, and as shown is provided with an eye bolt 17 which affords means for connecting one end of the rod 18 to the cover 15, the opposite end thereof having connection with one arm of the bell crank lever 19, which is pivota ly supported on the box 8.
The opposite arm of the bell crank lever 19 has connection with one end of the rod 20, the opposite end of the rod 20 being connected to the arm 21 that extends from the valve member 14. Thus it will be seen that movement of the cover 15 to a closed position, results in a relative movement of the valve member 1a to move the same to a closed position.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the ventilating attachment is such that does not interfere with water entering the bowl, and due to the draft created through the vent pipe 9, the fumes are readily carried off through the pipe 10 and vent pipe 9.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is In a device of the character described, a vent pipe, a pipe having one end thereof disposed within the vent pipe, a seat portion, said pipe having its opposite end disposed under the seat portion, a seat cover hingedly supported adjacent to the seat, a pivoted valve member adapted to normally close one end of the second mentioned pipe, a pivoted arm, a rod connecting the valve member and arm, a rod connecting the seat cover and arm, said arm and rods adapted to move when the seat cover is moved to con trol the movement of the valve member.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiiXed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
FRANK C. RIBLEY, lVitnesses:
ROBERT GRAHAM, GEORGE D. TOMLINSON.
