Description
Patented Mar.- I 20, 1923.
GEORGE EDWARD REDOUTE, OF TRENTON, NEW JERSEY.
CARRIER FOR Ion-CREAM corms.
Application filed July 9, 1921. Serial No. 483,548.
To all whom it hmg concern:
Be it known that I GnoRGE EDWARD RE- nourn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Trenton, State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carriers for Ice-Cream Cones;and I do hereby declare the following. to be a full, clear, and exact description of the in vention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a simple form of carrier for filled ice cream cones, whereby a number of said cones can be easily and conveniently carried by one person without crushing said cones or disarranging their contents.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a device of the character indicated,
preferably constructed of cardboard, capable of supporting any desired number of cones, said device being of such cheap construction that it may be supplied by the vendor of the ice cream cones with little additional expense to him, which expense is more than compensated for by the increasing of the sales owing to the use of said carriers.
Another object that will be noted is that the handle pieces for carrying said device are adapted to be turned down to form legs for supporting the carrier during the filling of the same.
Furthermore, by constructing the carrier of cardboard, or other suitable sheet material, there will be ample available blank space for printing thereon any desired ad-- vertising matter for augmenting the sale of the goods and displaying the name of the proprietor of the particular establishment selling the ice cream cones.
The improved device in the preferred construction comprises merely a cardboard blank, having its intermediate portion provided with a series of circular openings arranged in any desired formation, and its opposite side portions so attached to the intermediate portion as to permit said side portions to be folded downwardly to form legs for supporting said intermediate portion while being filled with the desired number of the ice cream cones, and also to be thereafter folded upwardly to provide handles whereby the device may be conveniently carried, the extreme outer ends of, the opposite side portions thereof being provided with openings for the insertion of the fingers for more securely grasping the same during the carrying operation. The invention also contemplates certain modified constructions, to be hereinafter more fully referred to.
The preferred embodiment of the inven tion is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Fig. 1 is a top plan view of the complete" blank before being folded. I
Fig. 2 is an end view thereof showing the oppositely disposed side portions bent downwardly to form supporting legs.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view with said-side portions bent upwardly to provide handles for carrying the device, and illustrating one means of displaying the advertising matter.
Fig. 4 is a modification wherein the side members are constructed of wire, and
Fig. 5 is an additional modification wherein the side members are constructed so that portions thereof may be bent downwardly to form supporting legs and an additional portion of each side member adapted to be bent upwardly to provide handles.
I Referring to the drawings in detail, the blank comprises a substantially rectangular intermediate'section 1, oppositely disposed side members 2, and additional side extensions 3, said parts being secured together in the order named preferably by a fabric hinged joint CODSiZIllCtiOI14.
The intermediate portion 1 is provided with a series of circular openings 5 for receiving the desired number of filled ice cream cones, said openings being of a size to properly support said cones.
By reason of the hinged construction a, the side members 2 may be folded down wardly and the extensions 3 folded outwardly to form supporting legs for the device, while being filled with the desired number of ice cream cones, as shown in Fig. 2, these same side members 2 and extensions 3 being also adapted to be folded upwardly to provide a means of carrying the device, as shown in Fig. 3.
To provide an easy means of grasping the device when in the carrying position,
the extensions 3 are cons-tructedwith cut out portions or openings 6 for the insertion of the fingers in an obvious manner.
In the modification as illustrated in Fig. 4, the side members 2 and extensions 3 are replaced by wire handles or bails 7, which may also be folded upwardly or downwardly to provide both supporting legs and handles for the purpose and in the manner as hereinbefore described.
Fig. 5 illustrates a further modification in which the side members 2 are cut to provide both downwardly projecting legs 2' and upwardly hinged handle portions 3', said handle portions being provided with openings 6', similar to the opening 6 of the device as -illustrated in 'Fig. 1.
, The particular form of device herein described will be well adapted to receive any appropriate advertising matter that it may be desired to print thereon, preferably displayed on the op site outside faces of the side members 2 w en the said device is folded in the carrying position.
With the various arrangements as above described, a very convenientfand satisfactory device for the purpose indicated has been provided, and by reason of the simple construction the same can be manufactured in large quantities at a minimum cost of production.
What I claim is: Y
1. A device of the character described,
comprising a blank of cardboard or other suitable -material provided with circular openings, and oppositely disposed hinged side members, said side members forming legs forsupporting said device and also handles for carrying said device.
2. A device of the oh'aracter'described, comprising a blank of cardboard or other suitable material provided with circular openings, and oppositely disposed hinged vided with openings for the insertion of the fingers to facilitate the carrying of said device.
4. A carrylng device for ice cream cones,
comprising a blank of cardboard or other suitable material provided with an intermediate portion and oppositely disposed connected side portions, a series of circular openings formed in said intermediate portion, and hinged connections between the intermediate portion and said side portions, whereby said side portions may be turned downwardly from said intermediate portion to form supporting legs therefor and thereafter turned upwardly above said intermediate portion to provide a handle or bail, the outer ends of said side portions being constructed with openings for the insertion' of the fingers to facilitate the carrying of said device.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature;
GEORGE EDWARD REDOUTE.
