To aZZ/w/wmz'mag/ concern.'
Be it known that I, STEvnN GYULAI, a citizen of' Canada, residing at Howell, in the Province of Saskatchewan and, Iominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bracelets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bracelets, having more particularreference to a bracelet in which a number of ornamental objects are secured upon a ribbon.
The invention has for an object to provide a novel bracelet of this sort in which.
the spacing and number of the objects may be readily varied as desired, to vary the ap? pearance of the bracelet. i
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Fig. 1 of the drawings is a fraginentary face view of a bracelet Constructed according to my invention.
Fig. 2 is a transverse section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a partial longitudinal sectional View taken on the line 3-3 of Fig.v 1.
Fig. 4 isa perspective view of one of the plates.
In constructing my improved bracelet, as here embodied I provide a number of rectangular plates 10 which may be of any suitable material, and may have any desired ornamental design engraved or otherwise worked or formed thereon.
These plates are formed with a central aperture 11 of rectangular outline and are stamped or otherwise formed to present recess 12 at each end of this aperture and of less Width than the latter, these recesses receiving the ends of a flat bar 13 which partially covers the aperture 11, leaving a pair p of side slots as shown in Fig. 1 through which the ribbon, indicated at 14, is passed, the ribbon passing under the side edges of the plate 10, and overthe bar 13 as shown.
To hold the plates against longitudinal movement on the ribbon 14 I hinge upon each of the former a pair of gripper elements adapted to bear downward on the ribbon where it passes over the bar 13, holding also the latter in place. hinge ears 16 are formed on the sides of the 'Io this end, pairs ofl plates 10 and iXedly support hinge pintles 17 to which `are hinged the lugs 18 formed integral ongripper jaws 19 which project toward one another, over the bar 13, and engage they ribbon, the free ends of these jaws being urged toward the bar, by means of coiled springs 20 surrounding the hinge pintles 17 and engaging said jaws in a well known manner.
As will be 'apparent the different orna-y mental objects may be spaced as desired along the ribbon, a smaller or greater number being used as required. While I have not shown any clasps on the ribbon it will be understood that the same may be provided. Furthermore any individual one of the ornamental objects may be removed as desired by openingthe jaws 19 and removing the bars 13.
AlthoughI have shown and described a` preferred embodiment of my invention'it is to be understoodV that I do not limit myself tothe precise construction disclosed, and that various changes and `modifications might be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Havingv thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United ,States is as follows 1.v A bracelet comprising a series of plates.
and grippingdevices on partially closing said apertures, a band passing under the side edges ofthe plates and over said bars, and gripping devices on said plates holding said said band clamped to said plate, saidv gripping devices comprising spring pressed jaws hinged to the sides of said plates.
3. A bracelet comprising a series of plates presenting enlarged central apertures, said plates having recesses at opposite ends of said apertures of less width than the latter,
bars of less width than the said apertures bars in said recesses andy 5 edges of sald plates and b'e'aring on said 1hally ClOSI1g.Same, and .a handy-assise 1m- 10 der the sides o fsad plates and over said bars, and spring pressed jaws hinged to the sidesof the plates and bearing against said 4handiand loars,`for the vpurpose specified. In testimony whereof l have aXed my f signature.
STEVEN GYULAI.
