Be it known that I, CHARLES A. PAnFRnr, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Richland Center, in the county of Richland and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and Improved Hens Nest, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to improvements in hens nests, an object of the invention being to provide a device of this character, which is collapsible so that it may be readily opened up for the purpose of cleaning and disinfecting the same. v

A. further object is to provide a collapsible nest of this character', formed almost entirely of wood, whichwill occupy a comparatively small amount of space when being shipped, and which may be readily as sembled and disassembled, as desired.

A still further object is to provide a highly sanitary device of the character' stated, which will be simple and practical in construction, durable and eflicient in use, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts `as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in` the claims.

Referring in detail to the drawings, my improved nest comprises a bott-0in l and front and rear sections 2 and 3 respectively hinged at their lower edges to opposite sides of the bottom l by conventional double jointed hinges 4:, said front and rear sections being adapted to swing outwardly from the bottom. The front section includes a plu rality of uprights or standards 5, to which, a base board 6 is attached. A connecting cross piece 7 is also secured to all of the standards adjacent their upper ends to strengthen thel construction of the nest, the

openings between'the base board and the cross pieces providing entrances for the hens into the nest.

The rear section 3 in like manner includes a plurality of standards 8, to which a'rear wall 9 is secured. This wall is provided with a hinged door 10 so that access may be had to the nest through the rear wall thereof. The standards 5 and 8 are provided with aligned grooves on their inner faces receiving the edges of vertically slidable partitions l1, which serve to divide the nest into a number of compartments. In order to prevent relative separation of the front and rear walls of the nest, I utilize straps l2 formedof twisted wire and provided at their ends with loops 13 adapted to' encircle the upper ends of the standards 5 and 8 respectively, to prevent the accidental collapsing of the nest and to securely hold the partitions in place.

For the purpose of cleaning the nest, the straps and partitions may be removed, as Seen in Figure 4, and the front and rear wall sect-ions swung outwardly. Access may thus be had to every part of the nest for the purpose of cleaning or exposing the same to the light.

It will be evident that the number of partitions in the nest might be varied to suit the trade, and although I have illustrated one of the preferred embodiments of my invention, numerous slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from the invention, and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details set forth, butshall consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

l. In a hens nest, ka bottom, front and rear sections hinged to opposite sides of` the bottom, said sections including uprights and cross pieces connecting the uprights, and straps including looped ends encircling the upper Iends of the uprights to prevent accidental separation of the sections.
