of which the following is a specification. This invention relates to hospitalbeds and w more particularlyto a novel and improved bed appliance or attachment wherebya patient may assist himself and attend to-the natural functions of the body when incapacitatedand lying in bed,

The primary object of the invention is the construction and provision of a hospital bed appliance whichdispen'ses'with thebed pan and the assistance of a nurse, said appliance having means whereby a container may be moved by the-patient toreceive the excrement and shifted to one end of the bed so that the container may be subsequently removed.

Another and very important object of the invention is the construction of a hospital bed appliance of the class above set forth which is capable of use and adapted to be installed on various types of beds, and one wherein the parts are extremely simple in construction, easily assembled, highly efficient in operation, practical and otherwise capable of being manufactured at an extremely low cost whereby its commercial possibilities are greatly enhanced.

I attain the above objects and others by the accompanying drawing showing a preferred form of the invention wherein;

As the receptacle supporting structure is moved toward the head of the bed it will be readily seen that the hinged portion of the mattress and hinged closure will fall to the dotted line position and lie open. As the handles are urged forwardly the mattress and spring are closed by the receptacle supporting structure and the receptacle may be moved to the foot of the bed where it may be removed.
