To all fr0/0m it may concer-1t Be it known that we, JEAN ScHULMnYnR and PETER HILDMANN, citizens of the German Republic, residing at, the ist, Frank-- fort-on-the-Main, the 2nd, Klein-Schwalbach i. Taunus, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Burners for Gaseous Fuel, of which the following is a specification.
The usual methods to increase the calorific power of a gaseous fuel by addition of air under pressure are based upon the injection of an air jet in the direction of ilow of the gas jet flowing out under pressure. By the superior life force and velocity of the air the gas jet is drawn along and Jforms so to say the core of the air current. In any case the two fluids are not thoroughly mixed and the increase of the calorific power of the gas does not correspond to the expenses for the addition of air under pressure.
According to this invention the gaseous fuel and the air are conducted in counter current, so that the two fluids admix very intimately and the heating effect is considerably increased.
This invention has for its object an apparatus adapted for the application of the method set forth, said apparatus being shown, by way of example, on the accompanying drawing, wherein Fig. l is a longitudinal section, and
Fig. 2 a section on line C-D of Fig. 1.
The arm CZ bent at right angles from the tube Z extends radially into the pipe a which leads to the burner Z). Tube CZ serves as gas pipe and the gas flows in the direction of the arrow B. The end CZ of the gas tube (Z is closed with the exception of an outlet 0 at the side of the tube cl which is turned towards the direction in which the air flows in pipe a (arrow A), so that the gas flows out of al in a direction opposite to that of the air current. The gas is thus carried away by the inflowing air, this effect being further increased by the narrowing of the cross section of pipe a by the end d of tube d, as the air striking against this tube al is dammed up, the gas current being deflected to get at the burner Instead of terminating at a short distance under the upper wall of pipe a the end d of the gas tube d could terminate in this upper wall so that the end d' is closed by the wall of pipe a. An essential feature of the i invention is that the outlet o for the gas be situated opposite to the direction in which the air flows so that the currents of gas and of air flow in opposite directions and are thus admixed thoroughly.
We claim:-
l. An improved burner for gaseous fuel comprising in combination with the burner and with the burner pipe into which compressed air is fed and flows towards the burner, a gas supply pipe, radially extending with its closed end into said burner pipe and having an outflow opening for the gas in said burner pipe and at the side turned away from the burner so that the gas flows out of said gas pipe into said burner pipe in a direction opposite and is consequently intimately mixed with said compressed air.

An improved burner for gaseous fuel comprising in combination with the burner and with the burner pipe into which compressed airis fed and flows towards the burn er, a gas supply pipe parallel with said burner pipe, the end of said gas pipe bent up at right angles, closed at the top and extending radially into said burner pipe and having an outflow opening for the gas in said burner pipe and at the side turned away from the burner so that the gas flows out of said gas pipe into said burner pipe in a direction opposite and is consequently intimately mixed with said compressed air.
3. An improved burner for gaseous fuel comprising in combination with the burner and with the burner pipe into which compressed air is fed and flows towards the burner, a gas supply pipe radially extending with its closed end into said burner pipe and having an outflow opening for the gas in said burner pipe and at the side turned away from the burner and situated in the longitudinal axis of said burner pipe so that the gas flows out of said @as pipe into said burner pipe in a direction opposite and is consequently intimately mixed with said compressed air.
