IMPROVEMENT IN DUMPINGCARS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 144,654, dated November 18, 1873 application filed March 17, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEVI C. BRADY, of Chambersville, county of Indiana and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dumping- Cars, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my invention relates to animprovement in dumpcars; and it consists in the construction of the lever for dumping the load, as will be more fully described hereafter.

a c represent an ordinary dump-car. Pivoted to its rear end in any suitable manner is the rod or lever z', having its upper end so bent that its point will catch in a hole or notch in the end of the body 0L', and prevent it from tipping forward. The opposite end of the lever extends downward under the car and out beyond its side for a short distance, so that it y can be operated either by hand or automatically by striking against a post placed by the side of the track.
When the lever is moved` backward for the purpose of dumping the load, the upper end moves backward in the arc of a circle, as shown by dotted lines, releasing its hold upon the body, which, being pivoted eccentrically, immediately tips forward and dumps the load. 4
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- Y The lever i, attached to the rear end of a dumping-car, one end of the lever being .bent to lock the body of the car, and the other projecting beyond its side, the whole adapted for hand or automatic operation, substantially as set forth.
