i To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that l, Pi-rrnrr J. Numerermine, a citizen oi the United States of nt of Lenzburg, in the county of Saint Clair and State of lllin-iiis, have invented certain new and useful Illlr pii'oveinents in Colters for F arm Implements oi? which the following is a speci :iication. i
This invention relates to colters for farm I implements and it is intended more particularly for use in connection with plows.
lt anohject of this invention to produce an attachment oil? the character indicated which will. prevent accumulation of weeds and toreign substances underthe colter or on the colter post of wheel plows and the said invention further operates to assist in turning such weeds and foreign substances under the dislocl 'ed earth dur ing the plowing operation and prevents the colter from choking.
ltis a further object oi this invention to pii'oduce a guard of the character indicated which can be readily applied to plows now in use andthesaid invention. comprises (-2321)- paratively aw parts of inexpensive construction. i
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction, and in the arrangement and.
combination of parts to he hereinafter more 'lully' set forth and claimed.
ln describmp; the invention in detiinh reference will. be had to the accompanying drawings Forming part ot this application wherein like characters denote correspond several views, and in which i p i li ipgure 1. illustrates a View in perspective of a fragment. ot a plow showing; a device Qllll'hifll'y'ln q the invention applied thereto;
Figure 2 illustrates a side elevation thereof partly in section? i y y i il iggure 3 illustrates a plan view of the colter mounting; and
Fiqure 4 illustrates an enlarged detail secr i t onal view of the means for securing the mounting; of the plow beam or frame.
In these drawings there is illustrated an embodiment of the invention in which a resilient mounting coinprisinega plate employed having an aperture 6 near one end to receive a bolt 7, which bolt operates in conjunction with a clip 8 for holding the forward end oi the plate 6 on the plow frame or beam 9.
.lfhe plate has an aperture i0 near its rear end to receive the colter post 11 and an entension plateilQ coacts with the colter post and the first mentioned plate and it forms a coi'itinuation oi? the guard of which the plate 5 is the main portion. The colter post in the pr sent embodiment of the invention has an offset portion or shoulder 13 which is engaged by a clip 14 and the clip 14% is coupled to the plate 5 by the bolt The extension plate has apertures 1.6 and 17 that receive tastenings such as 18 by which clips 19 are held in engagement with the colter tion with the colter, as those skilled in the art will understand.
The colter post,oi course, acts as a pivot for the extension plate and allows it to swing-3; freely with the colter yoke The colter post acts as a pointot suspension for the plate and serves to retain it in proper alineinent.
The plate and the extension plate can be maiuiitactln'ed by the stamping process and hence the cost of production and installation will be comparatively small as the apertures for the anchoring devices can be formedat the time the plate and its extension are stamped.
I. claim:
1. The herein described colter guard C0111 prising a plate and anextension plate therefor, means for securing the plate at its front end to the plow trance orbeam means for anchoring the rear end of the plate to a colter post, the saidextension plate being attached to the colter post and projecting: rearwardly under the axis of the colter and means for connecting the extension plate to the colter yoke,
located in proxii'nity and in operative relai o rotatahly post, means for seeurin g the ])l21 te to 2L heznn of a plow an extension plate having an aperture to receive the eolter post, the said extension plate having a longitudinal slot extending inwardly from its l'titll end to receive a eolter, a eolter yoke mounted on the said colter post and overlying the extension plate, and means for securing; the extension plate to the eolter yoke.
