IMPROVEMENT IN HORSESHOES.

To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, URIAH SNYDER, of Gonshohocken, in the county of Montgomery and `State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Horseshoe, of Which the following is a speciication:
The obj ect of my invention is to securely fasten detachable calks to horseshoes; and this object I accomplish, in the :manner plainly shown in the perspective and sectional views of the drawing, by fitting the heel-calks B entirely around the ends F F of the shoe and against projections ol of the same, and securing them thereto by means of Wedges or split keys h driven into the space between the calk and shoe. The heelfcalks B have an opening extending entirely through them, thus forming a strap or band, which passes around the end of the shoe when the calliV is fitted to the same, as shown in Figures l and 3. The calk is rigidly secured to the shoe by means of a split key, h, Fig. 5, driven into the opening in the same 5 or, if desired, a simple Wedge, retained by a set-screw, w, may be substituted for the split key, which is self-retaining; and the said call; is caused to bear against a projection, d, at the extreme end of the shoe, which, in conjunction With the Wedge, insures its retention in the required position.
I claim as my invention- The-combination, substantially as described, of the heel-calk B, the end F of the shoe With its projection d, and the split `key or Wedge h.
