DOOR HOLDER.

y rinata tetti-rift JOHN R. KIEL, OF YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO.
Doon HOLDER.
Application filed August 31, 1921. SeralpNo. 497,160.`
To all wlw/m 't may cof/warn: i
Be it known that JOHN B. Kinn, citizen o the United States ot America, residing at Youngstown, in the county of Mahoning and State of Ohio, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to door holders The principal object is to provide a device for holding doors open. A considerable amount of inconvenience has been experienced in keeping garage, barn, und doors ol this nature open. i i
Another object is to provide a device et this kind that will automatically latch when the door is swung out to the desired position.
The drawing` illustrates a preferred embodiment of the invention. However, it is to be understood that in adapting the .saine to meeting different conditions`r various changes in the form, and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departingl from the nature of the invention as claimed and set forth in the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation ol the device upright portion ai. This ui'iright portion 4:
has riveted to the outer surface of the saine. by means of a rivet 5. support arii, vided with an outturned portion To the upper surface of this outturned portion secured a hinge bar 8, @ver this hinge bar 8 I have provided :i securing arin 9. This securing' arui 9 is provided with a horizontal slot 10. i Near the outer end. ol this securing; arm 9. 'I have provided an upper'vertical slot 11, and a lower vertical. slot 12 which join to the horizontalslot 10, n
In installing;- this device the bracket meniber 1 is secured to the inner surface of the door j amb 13. The door is now swung open t0 a desired position for holding. New insert the upper end 1e of the holding bracket (j, pro-` 15 so the youtturned `portion 16 rests in the endof the uppervertical slot 11, and the securing' arm 9' being at right angles to the door jamb 2. At this position the holding'y bracket should be bolted to the door 20.
In operating the devicesimply open the door to the desired position, and the holdingbracket 15 will travel outwardly in the slot 10 until it reaches the upper vertical slot 11.
\ Now due to the slight pivot movement on the rivet 5 the securing arm 9 drops downwardly and is held by the holdingbracket 15 until released. door simply lift up on the thumb lift 17 and allow the holding` bracket 15 to travel back in the horizontal slot 10.
In order to prevent the undesired movement of the support arm G, I have provided stops 18 and 19formed at the upper end ot the upright portion 4.
It will be seen by referring to Figure if, that the holding bracket 15 is provided with a downturned portion 21 which holds the securing` arm 9 in proper position.
The lower vertical slot 12 is used when the device is installed on a door swinging in opposite directionfrom the door shown in the drawing. By this means it is not necessary to make right and left parts.
What I claim is:
- 1. In a device of the class described, a bracket member to be secured to a door jamb, an outturned and an upturned portion. a pivoted support arm attached to said upturned portion, stops positioned on the upper end or said upturnedportion. a hi -ge bar attached to an outturiied portion of said support arm, a securing arm hinged on said hinge bar., a horizontal slot in .securiu fr a rin? au upper and lower vertical slot ed the outer end of said horizontal slot7 a holding,v bracket attached. to a door, and functioningwith said securing` arm and slots, substantially as de scribed tor the purpose setforth.
2. In a device oi? the class described, a bracket member secured. to a door amb, an outturned and an upturned portion, a pivoted support arm attached to said `upturned portion, stops positioned on the upper end of said upturned portion, a hinge bar attached IVhen it is desired to close` the to an outturned portion of Said support erin, a securing arm hinged on seid hinge har, at horizontal slot in Suid securing` arm, mi upper and lower Vertical slot formed at the outer end of said horizontal slot, in combination With a holding` bracket attached to a. door, an outward and a downturned portion 'of said holding bracket, substantially s de* scribed for the purpose Set forth.
In testimony whereof I aix my signature. l0
