IMPROVEMENT IN PADS FOR PILE'TRUSSES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 144,145, dated October 28, 1873; application filed September 25, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN L. Rowe, of the city and State of New York, have invented an Improved Pile-Supporting Bandage, of which the following is a specification:
The object of this invention is to apply an elastic cushion at the lower end of the rectum for supporting the same in cases of piles, and at the same time to supply such ointment or medicinal substances as may be beneficial for the piles.
I make use of a rubber inflatable rectumpillow that can be distended more or less to suit the particular case, and in one surface of that pillow is a pocket for the medicine-holder.
Straps are employed for sustaining the pillow in place.
In the drawing, Figure l is a perspective View of the complete apparatus. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the pillow, and Fig. 3 is a plan of the medicine-holder.
The waist-belt a, back-strap b, and front straps c 0 are of suitable construction. The strap 1) should be elastic. The rectum-pillow is made of the rubber bag (I, that can be inflated through the tube e, and an air-valve may be attached to said. tube, or the tube may be tied to retain the air. Loopsff upon the back of this pillow serve for connecting it in place to the strap 1) or 0. Upon the surface of the pillow that comes next the body is a pocket, 2 formed by a piece of indiarubber, attached around the edges with a central opening. Into this, ointment or other material may be placed upon a piece of cloth or sponge; but I prefer Vitnesses:
