TOP FOR DRINKING BOTTLES r.
Application filed'Api'il 4,
To allwhom it may concern:
Be it known that 'I, EUGENE L. MCGUIRE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dennison, in the county of Tuscarawas and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Top for Drinking Bottles, of which. the
following is a specification.
This invention relates .to sanitary -mouth pieces to be used in connection withbottle mouths whereby a person may drink from a bottle, eliminating the necessity of placing his lips onthe mouth piece of the bottle.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be readily and easily positioned over the mouth of a bottle when the cap or stopper has been removed, thereby guarding the user against cutting his lips on the bottle mouth, should the same become broken.
A still further object of the invention is material to permit theprotector to grip the a mouthpiece of a bottle to securely hold the mouth piece in position.
With the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter de-' scribed and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made 1 within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the Spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing Figure 1 is a side elevational View of a bottle mouth supplied-with -a protector con structed in accordance with the presentinvention, the protector being partly broken,
1921. Serial No. 458,256.
reference character 5 designates a bottleneck having the usual mouth-indicated at 6, the bottle neck being provided with the usual reinforcing enlargements. The protector forming the subject matter of the present invention is stamped from card board or heavy paper material, and'is formed with relatively lon neck en a in -fin ers7 there bein rovid ed shoulder? 8 fioriii ed on the fingei' s for engaging with the enlargement 9 of the bottle mouth, to restrict movementof the protector with respect to the bottle mouth when the same is applied.
The body portion 10 forms a part of the mouth piece and is provided withan inwardly extending flange 11- adapted to closely engage the extreme edge of the mouth piece of 'a bottle,]to cover the edge of the bottle, to protect the user against rough or sharp edges. To further enhance the utility of the device, it may be found desirable to parafline or water-proof the protector.
In the use of the device, a bottle contain- 7 ing a-beverage, may be opened in the usual manner, and the protectorappli'ed over the mouth of the bottle, whereupon the bottle may be placed to the lips of the user, to
drink the contents of the bottle.
Having thus described the invention,
what is claimed as new is:- I
' A month piece for bottles having enlarge-t m'ents, comprising a body portion formed of flexible material and having an inwardlyextending flange adapted to embrace the mouth of a bottle, integral fingers formed on the mouth plece and adapted to embrace the neck of the bottle, said fingers having shoulders cooperating with the'enlargement of the bottom to restrict movement of the mouth piece with respect to: the bottle, and
said fingers adapted to grip the neck of the,
bottle. 7
. In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed'my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
