UNITED STATES ATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE E. JAMES, OF JERSEY OTY, NEV JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN CUFF-HLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 144,101, dated October 2B, 1873 5 application iled October 6, 1873. y
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. JAMES, of Jersey Oity, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Cuff-Holder; and that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ofthe same, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
This invention has for its object a device for retaining the shirt-cuff to the interior of the sleeve of a coat; and the invent-ion consists in an elastic clamp attached to theA inside of a coat-sleeve, and retaining the shirt-cuit in position, substantially in the manner hereinafter described.
In the accompanying sheet of drawings, Figure l represents a coat-sleeve, a part of which is torn away, showing the application of my invention; and Fig. 2 is a sectional View of a coat-sleeve and cuff, and edge view ot' holder, showing its operation.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts in the several gures.
A represents a coat-sleeve, and B a shirt-cuff. On the inside of the coat-sleeve A is worked a small eyelet or loop, a. My cuff-holder G, composed of steel or other suitable elastic material, is formed by folding the steel over,
The upper half oi' the clamp has formed upon its under side a boss or projection, c. The under half of the holder O is inserted into the loop or eyelct a worked in the sleeve of the coat, and the edge of the shirt-cuff B is clamped between the upper and lower part-s. of the holder, as shown in Figs. l and 2, the boss c tending to more eftectually hold the cuff in position.
This clamping, it will be found, will hold the shirt-cuff B within the sleeve of the coat, so that said cuff may be adjusted to project any distance below the coat-sleeve, or be retained within it, as desired; or, upon taking oif the coat, the hand may be withdrawn through the cuff, and the cuff will remain in the sleeve of the coat undisturbed.
By means of my cuit-holder, as described, the cuffs can be kept clean and smooth, and out of the way when the wearer thereof is einployed in writing.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The cuff-holder consisting of the spring-plate O and boss c, constructed substantially as described and shown.
GEO. YV. JAMES.
