Description

De@ Z6, 1922.
Tfs. BLoo. MEAT SAFE AND THE LIKE.
` Mwgm 2 SHEETS-swam 2 FI LED JUNE 23. 1920 y a an o a 1 *l En. il La MEAT SAFE AND THE Application filed Tune 23,
/ 'o alf whom t may concern.'
Be it known that l, li-'ronnie GUY BLoon, rubio-ct ot the King of Great Britain, residing at lllilliam Street North, Birmingham, llnglanfil, have invented certain new and useful improvements in llfleat @aies and the like, of which the following is a speciication.
This invention relates to collapsible meat safes and the like, and has tor its object to provide an improved construction of collapsible meat sate which admits ot the parts being readily disassembled and packed fiat, so as to occupy only a small compass, thus Yfacilitating transit and storage, the safe being` perfectly rigid when the parts are assembled.
The invention consists essentially in forming the front, back and sides of the meat safe with hollow headings or sleeves which can be slid one over another to connect the said parts together, whilst the top and bottom are secured by rods passing through the said sleeves at the corners of the structure.
Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings shows a vertical section through a meat-safe constructed in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a horizontal section through same.
Figure 3 is a horizontal section through one oi' the corners of the meat sate upon a larger scale.
Figure i shows elevational and Sectional views ot the several. parts ot the meatsatfe hetore being fitted together.
The same reference numerals indicate corresponding` parts in each of the figures.
Referring to the drawings, the base of the meat safe consists of a fiat flanged plate 1 having holes 2 at the corners to receive tour detachable upright rods 3. The sides of the sate consist of separate members in the form ot sheet-metal frames 4l the central openings ot which are filled with wire gauze or perforated mesh The vertical. edges of the trames are curled over to 'Form sleeves 6 adapted to he slipped over the tour vertical corner rods 3. 'lhe front oi' the sate consists of a sheet-metal frame 7 having a central openingl with rebated edges, to receive the hinged door 8, the vertical edges of the said :trame 7 being curled over into hollow headings or sleeves 9 adapted to he passed over the sleeves 6 at the iront edges of the 192C. Serial No. 391,210.
side members, the Iioint oi? the headings heing lett open to receive the metal of the said side trames. The back ot the sate consists ot a sheet-metal plate 10 having its vertical edges fashioned into hollow headings or sleeves l1, with open joints, similar to those of the iront ot the safe, said headings being adapted to be slipped over the sleeves 6 at the rear edges of the side frames.
The top of the safe consists of a iiat plate 12 having a flange 13 to overhang the front, back and sides` and provided at the corners with holes 14 to receive the upper ends oi? the corner rods These ends of the rods are screw-threaded. and are fitted with nuts l5 by which the whole structure may be drawn up.y tight, the lower ends of the rods having heads 16 located within the hollow under-side of the base 1.
Detachable shelf supports are provided consisting of rods 17 having one end engaged in holes in the front trame 7 and the other end being dropped into bayonet-like slots in vertical hollow boX-brackets 18 l'iXed at opposite sides of the back 10 of the safe.
The top 12 of the safe may carry hinged hooks 19.
To collapse the safe, the shelves and their supports having been removed7 the nuts 15 on the corner rods 3 are detached and the top 12 lifted oft, when the front 7 and hack 10 can be slid upwards off the sleeves 6 oit the end frames 4f, after which the said end frames l can be drawn oli the corner rods 3 and the latter removed through the holes in the base 1.
ll-laving fully described my invention, what l desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent is 1. A collapsible metallic structure comprising a bottom plate provided with an aperture having downturnecl flanges for supporting the structure, side. walls pro* vided with adjacent hollow headings removably but non-rotatably telescoped one upon the other, said headings being in engagement at one end with the bottom plate, a top plate resting upon said headings at the other end and provided with an aperture in alignment with said hollow headings, said top plate having downturned flanges adapted to overlap and engage with the side walls eX- ternally, a removable bolt passing through the apertures in the top and bottom plates and through said hollow headings, said bolt substantially litting the bore of the inner beading and a nut for tensioning said bolt relative to vsaid headings.
2. A. collapsible metallic structure coinprising a bottom plate provided With apertures and having downturned flanges vfor l supporting the structure, side Walls providled with hollovv headings adapted to slide one over another, said side Walls resting on the 10 bottom plate, means for preventing relative rotation of the teleseoping headings a top plate resting on said headings provided with apertures and having downturned flanges adapted to overlap and engage with said 15 side Walls externally one of said Walls being THGMAS GUY BLOOD.
