Application led .Tune 9, `19271. Serial No. 476,294.
- To all 'whom t ric/ay concern f,
shown in the accompanying drawing in which- Figure l shows t-he bust and head ot' a doll having thereon an ornamental bow attached by means of my invention.
Figure 2 is a part of the head of a doll showing the receiving portion of my device, andr ,i Figure 8 a cross-section through the head of the doll and the attaching device and ornamental bow on the line `-jz/ of Figure l. Y
My device is in substance the ordinary commercial snapeicastener, of which the receiving portion is imbedded in o'r secured tol the substance of lthe dolls head, while to the entering portion may be attached artiiicial or natural iiowers, rosettes, bows of ribbon, or the like, by having the same sewed to such entering` portion.
In Figure 3, c is a section oi" a portion of the head of the doll showing the receiving member O et my device imbedded therein,
and in the same figure, E is the entering por- 4 tion oi' my device, B being the section of the bow attached to said entering portion.
The operation of my invention is lobvious from the drawings and consists simply in attaching by proper means the ornamental bow which is to be secured to the dolls head,
' to the entering portion of the ordinary commercial snap-fastener, and snapping it into the receiving portion of the fastener which is imbedded in the dolls head, thus forming a secure connection between 'the ornament and the head which connection is concealed by the bow or other ornament, yand vcan be removed and changed at will.`
and
As dolls areused mostly by children, and
as the use opins in order to fasten bows other ornaments to the head of a doll is objectionable from the danger arising through kthe careless use of the sameby children, it will be at once seen that 'my inven- .tion provides a perfectly safe and convenient method for attaching ornaments to the dolls head without'any danger whatever to the child using the doll.
Where a dolls head is made of cloth or material which can be sewed, the' receiving portion of the snap-fastener may be attached to the head by sewing.
AWhere the head of the doll is made of i plastic material, such as papier mch, or other molded ork moldable substance, the receiving portion of the fastener is easily inserted into the head while the same is being molded; while in the case of dolls having heads composed of hard substances, the icastener may be inserted either 'by leaving a proper indentation when thedoll is manufactured, or by the subsequent perforating ofthe head and the use of cement between the receiving portion and the head of the I, doll.
t is also evident that more than one of'my devices may be used `upon the same head so that a number of ornamentsmay be connected at the Sametime' to the head of the doll.
Having described my invention what I- `claim anddesire to secure byLettei's Patent is in' means for attaching an' ornamentation to the head of a doll', a doll head formed of ysolid material having a socket therein open? ing at the outer side of the head, an aper-r tured keeper member of a snap-fastener being ot' plate formation and embeddedin the head adjacent the surface thereof with the' aperture registering with the head socket, and an entering member ofthe snap-fastener ycarrying a suitable ornamentation removably ieceived in the apertured keepei' mem ber. i
ln testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence oi two witnesses. f
