Referring to the drawings in detail, throughout which like reference characters ldesignate like partsv yThe numeral 1 designates the yside members, 2 the end members, 3, 4L, frame braces and 5 the top, of a pocket billiard table of a uwellknown design. The table is supported bythe usual legs 6, and its top is'provided ywith a cushioning' bar 'i'.
About ythe marginof the table are the usual pockets, designated by the numeral 8, with'which intersectk the outer ends of inclined receiving gullies 9, which discharge :into an inclined secondary gully 10,.
To thelower side of one of the endmembers 21s rigidly secured a receiving. receptacle 1-1,`which 1s provided upon its up- ,per side with a pair of laterally spaced apart vcurved distributing channels '12, "12', which intersect at their inner ends and are united discharge end ofthe secondary gully Upon yone side of the-brace 3, and upon opposite sides of thebrace 4, are rigidly secured4 brackets 14, 14', which support pivot ` pins 15, 15", which project rotatably through intermediate portions of primary levers 16,
16', to the upper ends of which are secured one end of extensilehcoil ysprings 17, 17',
which have their opposite ends connected to therear end of the table, and primary wires 18, 18', which extend forwardly andare4 sevcured to handles 19, 19', which project slidablyfv through ,the end member 2 vat the ,front .Y end ofthe table.r f
primary levers f To the lower yends of the 16, 16', are attached the inner ends of operating wires 20, 20', whichhave their outer ei', which are slidably disposed between the sidey wallsof the receptacle 11 and longitudinally extendingcleats 22, 22' secured to cle 11Qis secureda` downwardly projecting end piece 23, against the inner sideof which the traps may be operatively moved.
Upon the lower side of the traps 21, 21', are downwardly projecting pins 24, 24', which are slidably disposed in slots`25, 25', extending vertically through the outer' ends fwy the bottom thereof. Upon oneend of the-receptaof operating levers 26, 26', which have their intermediate portions pivotally supported yby pivot pins 27, 27', secured to the lower sides of the cleats 22, 22'.
To theinner ends of the operating levers 26, 26', are' pivotally connected one end each of a pair of connecting levers 27, 27h, the opposite ends of which are pivotally connected to the outer ends of a secondary lever 28, equi-distant from either end of which is rigidly secured the lower end of a vertically extending pintle 29, which is disposed to rotate in a vertical opening 3() with its upper end rotatably supported by a bearing plate 31 secured to the upper side of the receptacle 11.
32 designates a gate, which has one end rigidly secured to an intermediate portion of the pintle 29 and disposed to operatively swing in the channels 12, 12, at their point or intersection with each other.
To operate my improved table (in describing which. operation will consider the working parts of the table to be initially in a position as indicated in the accompanying drawings), assuming that the first player has iinished playing and the balls played by him have been deposited in the channel 12, the handle 19 is drawn out as far as it will go, which causes the upper end vof the primary lever 16 to swing ttorwardly in a direction toward the handle named, against the tension or' the spring 17, and the lower end of the lever to swing in the opposite or rearwardly direction thereby causing the secondary wire 2O `to lbe drawn rearwardly to slide the trap 21 in Lthe saine direction and away from its position over the lower end of the discharge opening 13. Said rearward movement of the trap 21 causes the operating lever 26 to rotate about the axis of the pivot pin 27 and its inner end to swing rearwardly causing the connecting lever 27a to move rearwardly and thereby rotate the secondary lever 28 to rotate the pintle 29 and swing the gate 32 away from the mouth of the channel 12 to open it for the reception oi' the balls played by the second player vand to swing the gate into the mouth oi' the channel 12 against the passage of said balls thereinto, and opening the trap 21 for the discharge ot the said balls played by the vhrst player' from the channel 12. The arrangement ot the secondary lever 28, connectinglever 27h, operating lever 2Q and primary lever 16', is suoli that the said drawing out oi the handle 19 and the movement of said first named set of levers and wires will cause the second named set to move in operative opposite directions thereby closing the trap 21 and drawing the handle 19 inwardly toward the member 2 as lar as it can go.
l claim:
1. The combination with a billiard table provided with a discharge gully, of a receiving receptacle rigidly secured 'to one end of the table and operatively connected to one end of the gully, the receptacle provided with a pair otlaterally spaced apart discharge channels, a gate operatively swingable from the mouth of one or' said channels to the mouth oi the other channel, the channels provided with discharge openings at their outer ends, traps for closing said openings, and means connecting said traps with said gate, the arrangementl being such that when said gate is operatively swung it will cause both of said traps to operatively move.
, 2. The combination with a billiard table having racentral secondary gully, of a receiving receptacle provided with a pair of laterally oppositely `disposed distributing channels having their inner ends intersecting and connected 'to the discharge end oi: said gully, the outer ends of said channels provided upon their lower sides with downwardly projecting openings, a pair of traps slidably secured to the receptacle yfor alternately closing said openings kagainst the passage therethrough of billiard balls pro- ]ected operatively along said channels, and means operatively movable for alternately closing said openings.
3. ln a billiard table of thecharacter described, in combination, a receiving receptacle having a pair of laterally oppositely disposed distributing channels, a gate for alternately operatively closing the receiving ends of said channels, a pair oltraps -i'or alternately operatively closing4 the discharging ends otthe channels, and a connection between said traps and gate whereby the saine may be operatively simultaneously moved.
