To all whom it may concern: j
Be it known that I, FRED of the United States, residing in Summit, 1n the county of Union and State of New J ersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable $triker Plates for Doors, of which the following isa specification.
This invention relates to that class of devices used in holding the free edge of a,
swing door with respect to its j am'b and particularly to doors provided with bevel ended, spring extended bolts, retractable by manually operable means extending from the side of the door.
Keepers for such door bolts are usually fixed rigidly upon the j'amb, with no provision for wear, distortion of the door or its jamb, and with nomeans whereby the door may be held securely when ajar, a condition frequently desirable, as in'obtainmg air or light.
The object of thisinvention is toprovide a keeper capable of securing the door whenpartially closed and also to hold the door in close relation to its jamb,.preventing vibration, noise or the passage of a draught of air, irrespective of wear or perversion of parts.
This and other objects such as convenience in adjustment, neatness in ap earance and range of utility, arev attaine by the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this specification, and in which 2-- Figure l is a perspective view showing the preferred embodiment of the invention.

In the preferred embodiment of the invention, as shown in Figs. 1 to 4, and par- EvANs, a citizen ticularly the latter figure, the device is shown as assembled with the side 15, and hinged door 16 of a closed vehicle, the door joint 18 between its edge and the j amb.
Set in the door is a spring actuated lockhaving a plate 17 overlying the diagonal v 19, its bolt 20 being normally extended but retractable by proper manipulation of the extending-handle 21 as is usual with devices of this character.
The front edge of the door j amb'contains a transverse recess 22 into the bottom portion 23 of which the spring bolt 20 enters to engage with the keeper.
This keeper comprises a substantially rectangul'ar body 25 having lateral plate proections 26 at the front provided with countel-sunk openings 27 for the reception of screws which also pass throu h annular bosses 28 on the bottom of the p ates acting as. dowels, whereby the keeper is held securely in operative position.
A keeper catch 30, integral-with the body, hasits diagonally curved surface 31 extending from a point in the plane of the lateral projection rearwardly over the body, the same being adapted to receive the thrust of the curved portion of the spring bolt 20 presented to it in closing the door 16, the bolt being thus pressed back until it has 'passed the highest part of the catch and enwith a transverse cut 38 for a reason further ap arent. n adjusting screw 40 having a head 41 set in a recess 42' formed centrally at the extreme front of the body and an end 43 revolubly engaged in the rear wall of the base, passes longitudinally through the lug 37 so as to impart motion to the catch 35 when the screw is turned, thus adjusting the movable catch relative to the fixed catch and obviously, also with the spring bolt 20. It is to be noted that the movable catch containing screw openin overhangs the body at the rear and is equivalent in surface dimensions with the fixed catch.

groove 55, these teeth co-opera'ting to hold the movable catch in adjustment which is obtained by slackening the screws passing through the openings 54 and sliding the movable catch and tongue as may be desired, then tightening the screws to clamp the keeper in place.
A similar device is shown in Figs. 8, 9 and 10, the only difference being that the teeth 58 and 59 are omitted andin place thereof the tongue 56 is allowed to slide freely in the groove 55, teeth 60 being formed on the .bottom of the tongue adapted to engage directly withthe material of the door jamb when I urged by the attaching screws.
rom the foregoing it will be seen that' a neat and convenient form ofkeepers have been disclosed each of which may be used to maintain a'door in a partially closed position or to hold the same in tight en agement, the movable catch being readily a justed to compensate for wear or malformation of parts should they occur.

A spring bolt keeper comprising a body member having laterally extending attaching means and containing an open recess in its rear portion, a catch formed integrally at the front of said body, a second catch movable on said body, a bifurcated lug on said movable catch extending into said recess and a screw journalled in said body engaging the bifurcated portion of said lug whereby said second catch may be adjusted.
2. A bolt keeper comprising a body having a recessed base, a catch extending from said body at the front thereof, a second catch arranged in tandem slidable'on the body, a base formed with said second catch engaged 'in the recess of said body base, means for adjusting the movable catch and means on the base of said movable catch whereby it is held in adjustment.

'A bolt keeper comprising a body having arecessed base and laterally extending attaching means, a catch extending from said body at the front thereof, a second catch arranged in tandem slidable on the said body, an extension formed with said second catch engaged in the recess of said body base, and means, integrally formed on one of said catches whereby it is held in adjustment.
