Be t known that I, ELEUTHERE SIX, a
subject of the King of Belgium, residing at Milton, in the county of Northumberland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Self-Threading Thread Tension Devices for Shuttles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a self-threading thread tension device for shuttles, and the. object of the invention is the construction of a simple and efficient tension device for;
automatic shuttles, whereby the thread from the bobbin will fall into both the threader block and tension device as soon as the pick of the shuttle is started.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention comprises certain novel Figure 3 is a sectional view, taken on.

Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates the shuttle-body, 2 the bobbin therein, and 3 is the threader block.
In carrying out my invention, I employ two elements or blocks a and 5 placed in the compartment A of the shuttle-body 1 (Fig. 2) these blocks will be known as the primary block 4 and the auxiliary block 5, and a substantially inverted L-shaped plate 6 is employed for the purpose hereinafter specified.
In the threader block 3 is formed a cutout portion 7, which receives the lateral extensions 8 of the blocks and plates, assist- 'mg in holding the tension device in an as sembled position for efficient action in conjunction with the threader block 3.
The primary block 4 increases in width from its top to its bottom so that the inner face 9 is on an incline, as shown in Fig. 2.
.The auxiliary block 5 decreases in width from its top'to its bottom, so as to place itsinner face 10in an inclined'position, so that the filling thread will fall readily between the blocks, by reason of the contiguous faces of the blocks registering with the corresponding opening or slot in the threader block.
The auxiliary block 5, near its upper end, is cut-out. on its inner face, producing a spring-receiving and holding pocket 11; the plate 6, preferably formed of metal, is of an inverted L-shape, corresponding in general contour with the primary and auxiliary blocks 4 and 5, and interposed be tween plate 6 and block 5 is coil spring 12;
one end of the coil spring is seated in pocket 11, and the other endof said spring bears against the face of plate 6. Screw 13 is threaded through the side of the shuttlebody 1 and its inner end engages the plate 6, so that by rotating the screw, plate 6 may be pushed inwardly, increasing the tension of the spring 12 for holding the blocks closer together, or .by unscrewing screw 13, the plate 6 can be caused to'press against the shuttle-body direct, thereby decreasing the strain upon the spring and its pressure against the auxiliary block 5.
The two blocks are left free to have some bodily movement in the shuttle-body, with respect to a transverse play, and by means of the screw 13, plate 6 and spring 12, the tension or pressure upon the filling passing through the device, can be greatly and efliciently controlled or adjusted.

\Vhat I claim is:
1. In a device of the class described, the combination with a shuttle-body, a threader block provided with a cut-out portion in said shuttle-body, of a primary and an auxiliary block in said shuttle-body, each block provided with a lateral extension at one end extending into and fitting snugly within said cut-out portion of the threader block, one of said blocks provided with a springreceiving pocket, a plate provided with an extension projecting into said cut-out portion of the threader block, a spring in said spring-receiving pocket and bearing against said plate, and a screw in said shuttle-body and normally engaging said plate, as and for the purpose set forth. i
2. In a device of the class described, the combination with a shuttle-body, of a tension device in said shuttle-body comprising a primary block increasing in thickness from its upper end to its lower end, an auxiliary block decreasing in thickness from its upper end to its lower end, whereby the space between the blocks will be at an angle to the perpendicular, a plate contiguous to said auxiliary block, a spring between said auxiliary block and plate, and a screw in said shuttle-body and engaging said plate, as and for the purpose set forth.
3. I11 adevice of the class described, the combination with a shuttle-body, of a priposition of the blocks with respect to each other within the shuttle-body, as and for the purpose set forth.
l. In a device of the class described, the
combination with a shuttle-body, of a pair of blocks in said shuttle-body, a screw in said shuttle-body, a plate in the shuttle-body against the inner end of said screw, and a spring bearing against the plate in alignment with the screw and also bearing against one of the blocks.
5. In a device of the class described. the combination with a shuttle-body, a threader block provided with a cut-out portion in said shuttle-body, of a primary and an auxiliary block in said shuttle-loody, each block provided with a lateral extension at one end extending into and fitting snugly within said cut-out portion of the threader block, whereby the blocks will be firmly held to move freely and be prevented from binding, and
means for yieldably urging the blocks to- ELEUTHER-E SIX.
