FRANCI$ M. HOOVER, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
TOY BED.
Application filed February 25, 1920.
1 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Framers M. Hoovnn, a citizen oi the United States of America, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ghio, have in rented a new and useful lnuorovement in To Beds, oi: which. the following is a speci fication. V
The object of my invention is to provide a toy bed that may be folded for shipment and that may be readily set up at its destinzn tion for display or for play.
These and other objects attained by the means described herein and disclosed in the accompanying drawings, in which 2- Fig. 1, is a plan view of a bed, embodying my invention, in shape for shipment.
Fig. 2, is a side elevation of the bed as shown in Fig. 1, part of the bed being broken away.
Fig. 3, is a sectional view on line 8-3 of Fig. 2.
I have pivotally attached the head board A and the foot board B to the sides l) in such manner that the sections A and B can be folded upon the cross pieces or slat-s E extending between the sides D. The sections A, B and D are notched so that the sections A and B when placed in an upright position will retain that position.
The head-board A. and toot-board B are pivotally tached to the sides D by means of the screws F. A. shoulder (Z is formed on each end of the sides D. The ends (Z of the sides D are rounded. Shoulders a and 7) are formed on sections A and B respectively. The shoulders a and 7 are so constructed that their outer surfaces 01 and Z) are flush with the outer surface (Z oi sides 1).
, The distances between surfaces 6& and. 0 oi section A, and between 72 and 7) of section B, is less than the distance between the inner surfaces (i oi the sides D. lhe sides a? and b of the shoulders a and Z) contact the shoulders (Z on the sides, when the bed is set up The cross pieces or slats h are se cured to the sides D andare in such relation to one another and the screws F that the sections A and B can lay upon the slats when the bed is folded.
folded posit-ion.
Serial No. 361,276.
The operation of the device is as follows 1- H the bed is to be shipped or stored, the end sections A and B are turned on the screws 1* so that they will lay flat upon the slats. When the bed is to be displayed or used in play, the ends A and B are turned on the screws to a position at right angles to their The screws are so placed. that some pressure is necessary to pass the shoulders a and b by the ends of the curved ends (21. This is sufficient to hold the bed in a display or play position.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is I 1. In a toy bed the combination of sides, the sides having shoulders formed along their lower edges at the ends thereof, the ends of the sides being arcuate in form, a head board and a foot board at opposite ends of the sides, the head board and foot board being of a width thruout their upper portions, less than the distance between the sides, and being of a width thruout their lower portions, substantially equal to the outside distance between the sides, and having shoulders at the junctions of the upper and lower portions of the head and foot boards adapted to engage the shoulders on the sides, and means pivotally mounting the head and foot boards between the ends of the sides.
2. In a bed the combination of sides, the sides having shoulders formed along their lower edges at the ends thereof, a head board and a foot board at the opposite ends of the sides, the head board and foot board being 01"? a width throughout their upper portions less than the distance between the sides, and being oi a Width throughout their lower portions, substantially equal to the distance between the sides, and having shoulders at the junctions of the upper and lower portions ot the head and foot boards adapted to engage the shoulders on the sides, and means pivotally mounting the head and foot boards between the ends of the sides.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto sub scribed my name this 24: day of February,
FRANCIS M. HOOVER.
