T allwhom itrmay concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY E. PECK, a citizen of the United States, residing at lVaverly, in the county of Tioga, State of New York, have invented a new and useful Blotter Top; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use same.
The invention relates to blotter tops preferably of the type used in connection with rockable blotters and has for its object to provide in combination with the blotter top a display card frame disposed on the top of the blotter top and provided with downwardly extending L-shaped lugs passing through elongated apertures in the blotter top and engaging the under face of the blot-- ter top for holding the frame in position.
Also to provide a cam pivotally connected with the under face of the blotter top and so positioned that it will cooperate with one of the lugs carried by the superimposed frame and prevent retrograde movement of the lugs in the apertures after the card frame has been moved longitudinally.
A further object is to provide the display card frame with upwardly extending integral flanges forming finger engaging members adapted to be grasped by the operator during a blotting operation.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the blotter to 3..
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the blotter, parts being shown in sections to better illustrate the construction.
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of the top.
Figure 4 is a transverse sectional view through the blotter top taken on line 4-4 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawing the numeral 1 designates the back of the blotter holder and 5.. downward. extending flanges carried by the ends thereof. The blotter 3 is held in position between theflanges 2 by means of a broad metallic sheet 4.
i The top 1 of the blotter holder is provided with a plurality of elongated slots 5, which slots are in parallel'relation to each other. Disposed on the top of the back 1 is a display sign frame 6, in which frame a display card 7 is disposed and on which display card advertising matter may be printed, or if so desired, the name of the user. The frame 6 is preferably rectangular shaped and provided with a horizontally disposed flange 8 and vertically disposed flanges 9. The lower edges of the vertically disposed flanges 9 rest upon the upper face of the top plate 1 as clearly shown in Figure 2. Extending downwardly from the longitudinal flanges 9 are L-shaped lugs 10, which lugs are integrally formed with the flanges 9 and adapted to be disposed in the elongated slots 5 with their horizontally disposed arms 11 underlying the plate 1 adjacent one end of the slots 5, said arms 11 forming means for holding the rectangular shaped frame 6 on the top 1. The lugs 11 are of substantially so the same width as the length of the elongated slots 5 so that they will easily pass through the slots and into position where their arms 11 when the frame 6 is moved longitudinally will engage the under face of the plate 1. To prevent retrograde movement of the frame 6. the cam 12 is used, which cam is pivotally connected as at 13 to the under face of the plate 1 and after the lugs 10 have been moved to the posi- '90 tions shown, the cam edge 14 is forced into engagement with one of the lugs 10 for holding said lug against retrograde movement and consequently holding the frame 6 against misplacement. Cam 12 is provided with a finger engaging flan e 15 by means of which the cam can be moved to operative position or inoperative position.
From the above it will be seen that a detachable sign-carrying frame is provided for blotter backs which is simple in construction and one wherein the parts have been reduced to a minimum. It will also be seen that the frame 6 may be formed from ,a single piece of sheet metal, thereby cheapening the cost of construction, and if so desired upwardly and outwardly extending finger engaging members 16 may be formed integrally with the horizontally disposed flange 8.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is:
1. The combination with a blotter back having a plurality of elongated apertures therein, of a display card frame carried by said back and disposed thereon, said display card frame being provided with clownwardly extending L-shaped lugs extending through the slots and engaging the under surface of the blotter back.
2. The combination with a blotter back having a plurality of elongated apertures therein, of a display card framedis-posed on said back, said display card frame being provided with downward extending L- shaped lugs extei'lding through the elo n gated apertures and engaging the under face of the back and means engaging one of said 'L-sha'ped lugs for preventing longitudinal movement of said display card frame.
3. The combination with a horizontally disposed member having elongated slots therein, of a display card frame disposed on said horizontally disposed member, said frame being provided with downwardly extending L-shaped lugs extending through the elongated apertures and engaging the under face of the horizontally disposed member, a pivoted member pivoted to the under face of the horizontally disposed member at a point adjacent one of the slots therein, said pivoted member being adapted to be moved into engagement with one of the L-shaped lugs for preventing longitudi nal movement of said lug in its slot.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence oi: two subscribin witnesses.
HARRY E. PECK.
