Appneaaqn niet 'August so, isla rserial nafsia'oa l rlhe primary object of the invention isto` provide a sliding door capable of easy operation, and one which will be securely supported against displacement. y
A further object of the invention is to provide a door which will be supported on rollers disposed adjacent the lower edge of the door, thereby relieving the upperportion of the door, and bracket thereof,- of undue strain, which is ordinarily directed thereto, by the freight car.
A further obj ect of the invention is to provide brackets having means for engaging the inner surface 0f the supporting tracks, there-y by securing the door against lateral displacement.
, With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment ofthe in` vention herein disclosed, may be made within 'the scope of what is claimed without departingfrom the spirit of the invention.
eferring to the drawings Figure 1 illustrates a side elevational view y of a portion of a car having a door constructedin accordance with the present invention applied thereto. f
Figure 2 illustrates a longitudinal sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of one of the upper brackets, used in connection present invention.
Figure 4 illustrates a perspective view of one of the lower, or roller supporting bracket.
Having reference to the drawings in detail, reference character 5 designates a portion of a freight car, provided with the usual door opening 6. The track sections include the upper horizontal casing member 7, and lewer horizontal member-8, each of which is .size to completely close ing in lan upwardly,
with the f supported in spaced relation with the side of thecar 5, by means of the bolts 9.
The'closure 10, is made upy of a plurality of .vertically extending boards, andzis cf a the opening, when the door is in its closed position. As shown, the lower portion of the door, or closure 10, is provided with cut-out portions 11, which cut-out portions are of a size to receive the body portion which includes the laterally ex` 65 tending arms12, of the bracket members 13, each bracketmember including upwardly extending arms 14, apertured. as at 15, to receive suitable securing means, the arms 14, v
extending below the arms 12, and`terminatand inwardly extending hook portion 16.
Each of these arms 12, is provided with an elongated slot 17, toprovide a support for the roller 18, which is also supported on a pintle 19, positioned in the openings 20 and j 21, formed in the arms.
From vthe foregoing, it will be seen that the weight of the car door, is removed, from the securing bolts 21, the arms 12 supporting 80 the weight 'of the door, which arms transfer the weight to the rollers 18, and permit of easy movement of the door, along the track sections.
In order to prevent lateral displacement of S5 the door,-9., with relation to the car proper, the upper brackets 22, are secured to the upper portion of the door 9.
f Each of the brackets 22, includes the body y portion 23, which khas downwardly extending arms 24;, apertured to receive the secur :ing bolts 25, te permit the same Le be rigf idly connected to the door 9.
An upwardly extending hook member 26, is' formed integral with the body portion 23, 95 and is providedkwith a downwardly extend-k ing ange 27 cooperating with the upwardly extending ange 28, provided on the laterally extending arm 29for engaging the upper track section 7, thereby preventing lateral displacement of the upper portion of the door, with relation to the track sections.
The latch member is indicated at 30 and cooperates with the keeper 31 secured to the door frame so that the door will be held in its locked position.
' Having thus described the invention, what is claimed 1s z- In combination with a sliding closure and lower edge thereof, a hanger comprising a pair of spaced arms, the lower ends of said arins merging into an integral hook portion formed with a groove to it over the track section7 :L body portion 'formed integral with the arms and extending laterally therefrom, the body portion having its ends extended beyond the arms to provide a bracket for the door, said body portion having a out out por- 10 tion to accommodate a roller, and a pintle in the presence of two Witnesses.
