DOOR-HANGER.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, BURTON S. JORDAN a citizen of the United States, residin at ttawa, in the county of La Salle and tate of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Door-Hangers, of which the following is a specification. y
This invention relates to door hangers for folding doors, the sections of which are hinged together with one ofthe door` sec` tions hinged at one side of the door opening.
Among the objects of my invention is to provide a door hanger using a straight track mounted' parallel to the door opening and permitting the doors to be yfolded one against the other and stand at an angle to the track when in fully open position. A further object of my invention is to providesuch a connection between one of the doors and the hanger that the doors will be prevented from movement beyond their fully open position and from being injured or damaged by being forced or moved against the side wall of the building or the front wall thereof to which the doors are connected. A still further object of my invention is to provide a bracket and arm which may be used with either right or left-hand opening doors, and thus make the equipment a universal one. A further object of my invention lis to provide a simple construction comprising a minimum number of parts, inexpensive to manufacture and to handle and install, and yet efficiently serving the purpose for which it is intended. such parts disconnected so as to indicate how the same may be used for right as well as left-hand opening doors.
In the drawings, I have shown a garage or other building 1, having a front wall 2 provided with an enlarged doorway 3 and side walls t, 4, the building of course'having a rear wall, roof, and floor. On the inside of the building and above the doorway 3 is a straight track or rail 5 secured to the front wall 2 by brackets 6, of any desired type and number and positioned along the length of the track at such intervals as necessary.
As shown, the track 5 is in the form of a fiat bar arranged on edge and secured to said wall 2, parallel to the door opening 3. The track 5 is straight throughout all portions of its lengthand is not 'curved from the building wall at either of itsends as in some equipments heretofore used. For the doorway is provided a plurality of doors 7, 8, and 9, three in number in the particular equipment shown but a greater number of doors may be used if desired without departing from the spirit and scopel of my invention. The door '7 is connected by hinges 1() with the inside of the front wall 2 at one side of the door opening, while the door 9 is connected by hinges 11 withy the inside of the Vsame wall at the opposite side of the door opening, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The door 8 is interposed between the doors 7 and 9 and is connected with the opposed edge of the latter by hinges 12, located on the outside of said doors'to permit the doors 8' and 9 to fold back against each other and to one side of the door opening, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2. In the particular equipment illustrated, the doors 7 and 8 when closed may be connected together at their meeting or abutting edges'by a pivoted latch member 18 engaging a keeper 14 on the'door 8. Said latch member may be raised to disengage it from the'keeper by a pivoted thumb piece 15 on the door 7.

The hanger construction as shown and described is particularly applicable for garage doors or any other equipment where folding doors are employed. In the drawings, I have shown the door 7 which may be opened and closed independently of the folding doors 8 and 9, this being the usual practice in building garages, although such door could be omitted and the door opening closed by folding doors alone.
While I have shown and described herein in detail one preferred form of door hanger embodying the features of my invention, yet the details of construction and arrangement of parts shown may be variously changed and modified without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a door structure, the combination of a straight track rigidly mounted parallel to and above the door opening, a plurality of doors hinged together, there being an inner door and an outer door and the latter p hinged to a stationary support at one side of the door opening, a roller carriage mounted to travel on said track, a carrier secured to said `roller carriage and extending downward therefrom, a bracket secured to said inner door, and a horizontal arm arranged at right-angles to said bracket and extending between the same and said carrier, said arm having pivotal connection with said carrier and rigid, non-rotative connection with said bracket. y
2. In a door structure, the combination of a straight track rigidly mounted parallel to and above the door opening, a plurality of doors hinged together, there being an inner door` and an outer door and the latter hinged to a stationary support at one side of the door opening, a roller carriage mounted to travel on said track, a carrier secured to said roller carriage and extending downward therefrom and having its lower end extending beneath said track, a bracket secured to said inner door and having a horizontal flange extending inward therefrom,
and a horizontal arm arranged at right-angles to said flange and extending between the same andsaid carrier, said arm having pivotal connection with the lower end of said carrier and rigid, non-rotative connection with the flange of said bracket.
3. In a door structure, the combination of a straight track rigidly mounted parallel to and above the door opening, a plurality of doors hinged together, there being van inner door and an outer door and the latter hinged to a stationary support at one side of the door opening, a hanger mounted to travel on said track, a carrier secured to said roller carriage, extending downward therefrom, and having its lower end extending beneath said track` a bracket secured to the inner door, a horizontal arm arranged at right-angles to said bracket and extending between the` same and said carrier, said arm .having pivotal connection with the lower ond of said carrier, and means rigidly connecting said arm with said bracket in a manner permitting said arm to extend from either side of said bracketfor either a righthand or lefthand opening set of doors.
4l. In a door structure, the combination of a straight track rigidly mounted parallel to and above the door opening, a plurality of doors hinged together, there being an inner door and an outer door and the latter hinged to a stationaryfsupport at one side of the door opening, a roller carriage mounted to travel on said track, a carrier secured to said roller carriage and extending downward therefrom and having its lower end extending beneath said track, a bracket secured to said inner door, and a horizontal arm arranged at right-angles `to said bracket and extending between the same and said carrier, said arm having pivotal connection with said carrier beneath said track and rigid, non-rotative connection with said bracket; the outer end of said arm being offset downward toward said inner door.
