To all whom it may concern c it known that l, litlimrin N *sirnoM, a citizen of the United States residing at Chicago, in the county o't (lookand State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useiiul improvements in Supporting Structures for honograph Motors, of which the tol lowing is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a supporting structure for the mechanism of a phonograph inotor which will be sut liciently rigid to maintain the parts in their proper relationship and which will admit free access to all parts of the mechanism for inspection and repair.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide a support for mechanism of a mechanical motor which can be secured to the top plate of a phonograph and carry the entire mechanism in asmall number of slender standards whereby the bearings for all the shafts are made readily accessible and a practically unobstructed view may be had of all the parts of the mechanism.
In the accompanying drawings which illustrate a selected embodiment oi the invention Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the supporting; striu-ture; and r Fig. 2 is an inverted plan View iiuliratinp; one assemblage of motor elements mounted in such a. structure As illustrated, the device includes a substantially rectangular frame reinforced by the side flanges l1 and the end flanges 12 and 13. Adjacent to the left end, in Fig. l is a standard 14; having a socket 15 aligned with a similar socket 16 in a standard 17 located substantially midway between the sides, but spaced from the right end of the frame. The sockets l5 and 16 are intended to receive the longitudinal shaft on which a spring assembly '18 is to be mounted. The
standard 17 is made relatively thin and braced by a gusset 19 in order to provide proper rigidity. The standard it has another socket 20 in which may be journalled ashaft 21 of a winding mechanism for the spring. At approximately the corners of the frame at the right hand end are a pair of standards 22 and 23, the latter being longer than the former and having at its lower end an obliquely disposed arm 24 extending diagonally across the framein the direction of a spring assembly.

The openings and 27 in the standards 28 and 22 respectively are provided to support the opposite ends of the governor shaft 28 (Fig. 2) which has a worm 29 meshing with the worm wheel on the spindle. The oft-set 01 in the flange 12 makes room for the drum 82 of the governor and provides a support :tor the pivot 33 of a control lever 34.- equipged with brake pad 35. An additional standard 36 on the lower side of the frame (Fi 1) and adjacent to the standard 23 is p, vided to assist in supporting a reduction shaft 37 journalled in the hearings in the standard 36 and the standard 28.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that the supporting structure here disclosed provides ample and rigid mountings for all the necessary equipment of a mechanical mo tor, while leaving the assemblage almost entirely unobstructed from every side. This feature is very important both in the'manufacture and in the maintenance of mechanical motors. With the supporting structure as here shown, the various parts can. be readily inserted in place and the bearings can be easily and handily reached for ad justment, so that the assembly OPGTKLtlOD, and the testing of the motors are accomplished quickly and easily.
By supporting the spring assembly on the standards 14 and 17 arranged substantially midway between the sides, the springs are placed in a position to permit the use of a Very small frame, and only a slight additionallength is required to make room for the reduction gearing, the spindle and the governor, as indicated in 2. The use of the oblique arm 24 to support the lower end of the spindle permits the elimination of all cross pieces on the bottom, and leaves the sides and ends practically free and open cept for the corner standards I am aware that changes in the term and proportion of parts, andin the details of construction of myinvention may be made without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof, and It reserve the right to make all changes as fairly fall within the scope of thetollowing claims;
I claim:
1. A supporting bracket for phono -mph motors having a pair of standards pronded with i 'ned bearings, one of the standards being longer than the other and provided with a transverse arm extending in direction transversely of the alignment of the bearings, said arm having a bearing, and the bracket having :1 bearing boss aligned with the bearing oi the 2. In a device of the class described, a substantially quadrangular frame, a standard substantially midway between the sides of the f1 and spaced from one end, an aligned standard at the opposite end, a pair of standards at the corners of the frame adjacent to the first mentioned standard, one of which having an obliquely extending arm.
3. In a device or" the class described, a quadrangular fiat frame having flanges thereon, aligned standards along the median line of said frame, aligned standards along one end of said frame, one of said last mentioned standards having an oblique arm extending substantially parallel to the frame.
4. A supporting bracket for phonograph motors having a pair of standards provided with aligned bearings, one of the standards being longer than the other and provided with an offset arm extending transversely with respect to the alignment of the bearings of the standards, said arm being provided with a bearing the bracket being provided with a bearing in alignmentwith the hearing of the arm, and another standard projecting from the bracket in flllglllflel'lt with the said longer standard and aligned there with at substantially right angles to the alignment of the two first mentioned standards, said other standard and said longer standard being provided with aligned bearings.
