Application filed December 2'2, 1215.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, OsoAR H. Pinrnn and Anrrronsn F. Pmrnn, of Rochester, in the count of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Imrovements in Indicator Mechanisms; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being .had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and to th reference-numerals marked thereon.
Our invention has for its object to provide a novel method of mounting an indicator mechanism, and has reference more particularly to the arrangement of a fluid pressure indicator with reference to a panel board or other support so that the bulk of the device, that is to say, the operating or controlling mechanism may be disposed upon the back or rear side of the support, while the indicator together with the indicating dial and coiiperating parts may be arranged upon the front of the support, thus eliminating from the front surface of the panel any unnecessary or large projecting parts such as when the entire mechanism is arranged upon one side. A further purpose of the improvement is to afford a simple arrangement for carrying out the general objects set forth, and so arranging and combining the different portions of the structure as to make it possible to readily assemble them in operative relation upon a support or to remove the mechanism when this becomes desirable, and at the same time, afiord rigid retaining means for the indicator. To these and other ends the invention consists in certain improvements and combinations of parts all as will be hereinafter more fully described, the novel features being pointed out in the claims at the end of the specification.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan view showing the application of the invention to a usual type of pressure indicator, with the panel or support broken away;
Fig. 2 is a similar view with parts re moved;
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken transversely, and
Fig. 4c is a sectional view on line L -4 of Fig. 3.
Similar reference numerals throughout the several views indicate the same parts.

In the arrangement. which we have shown 1 indicates a supporting member or wall which may be in the form of a panel constituting part of a controlling mechanism, in connection with which it is desirable to afford an indication of pressure within" a system, and without disposing all of the operating parts for the indicating mechanism upon the front of the panel. With this in view, we employ a housing 2 carrying the operating mechanism and supportedon the back of the panel 1 by means of bolts 3 which engage a plat 4: on the front of the panel, through which they pass, and having threaded extremities engaging threaded openings in the base of the housing 2. The controlling mechanism includes an expansible member 5 connected with an air passage 6 which terminates in a connection 7 to which an air line may be attached. The expansible member 5 is operatively associated with a gear segment 8 which engages a pinion 9 on the arbor 10 and since the operative connection between the fluid expansible member and the arbor 10 form no part of the present invention, it is unnecessary to describe these in any greater detail than above.
The arbor 10 is located in an opening 11 in the panel, extending beyond the opposite surfaces of the panel and having the pinion 9 already described, located at its inner eX- tremity. The outer or opposite end of the arbor 10 carries an indicator or hand 12 fixed thereon and cooperating with an indicating dial 13 which is located adjacent the aforementioned plate 4: and within the flange 1d 15 is a crystal supporting ring bearing against the crystal 16 which is retained in place by the threaded ring 17 engaging a threaded portion on the edge of the flange 14. The ring 15 rests partly on the flange 14: and partly on the peripheral edge of the dial 13 thus serving to hold the latter firmly against the plate a. To arbor 10 is inserted through the opening 11 to position the housing 2 which is then secured in place by the bolts 3. The dial plate 13 is next arranged over the plate 4:, after which the indicator 12 may be attached to the arbor, and the crystal and its cooperating parts can thereafter be secured in place.
The structure which we have described herein affords an extremely simple and unique arrangement that is especially efi'ecassemble the structure the.
embodiment 01 tive in the relation described. The cost of manufacturing and the ditliculty in assembling is no greater than with theordinary type of indicating nechanisni. While the application discloses a more or less specific the improvement it will be understood that the invention is intended to cover any arrangement in Which is contemplated positioning an indicating member upon one side of a panel or support and opcrating it from mechanism located on the opposite side of the panel, as Well as the particular arrangement described.
We claiin'as our invention:
1. In an indicator mechanism, the combination of a supporting member having an opening therethrough, pressure indicator op erating mechanism, a housing therefor, a plate having a transversely projecting annular flange, means for securing the housing and plate to opposite sides of the supporting member, an indicator scale supported Within the flange on said plate, a threaded ring also supported on said plate, a crystal supported in said ring, a spacing ring bearing against the scale and the inner face of the crystal,
and indicating means cooperating with said indicator scale and cont-rolled by sald-operatlng mechanism.
In an indicator mechanism, the comblnaticn of a panel having an openlng therethrough, pressure indicator operating mechanism on one side ot the panel, a pressure indicator on the other side of the panel ineluding a plate, means for securing themechanism and plate to latter in contact with the panel, operating connections between said mechanism and indicator extending through the panel opening, an outwardly projecting flange on said plate, an indicator scaleon the flange, a spacing :ing engaging said scale, a plate of transparent material engaging the spacing ring, and a retaining ring in threaded engagement with said flange and having shoulder bearing on said transparent plate.
