and-a clamping nut 24 forsecuring the member or bracket-Q3 in position, :the latter having its free 'endl-arranged for pivotal engagement in the bifurcated end 25 of a connecting member- 26, and on the pivot pin 27 carried thereby, The member 26 has its end opposite to the end 25 thereof formed to provide a threaded bore or socket, in which is secured the complementally threaded end of an actuating rod 28, which, in turn, has its opposite end pivoted as at 29 in a bifurcated offset portion 30 formed on the upper edge of the operating handle 14 and outwardly from the inner end of the latter, which is pivoted on a pivot pin 31 secured in and extending between a pair of oppositely disposed cheeks or side walls 32 formed on the upper side of the connected end portion of the fixed h-andlefll.
The inner narrow portion 15 on the frame 10, between the enlarged portion 16 and the walled portion 32 of the handle 11, is formed to provide a recess 33 through which the setting plunger 12 passes, and in which is positioned a device for the tensioning ofthe operating mechanism of the tool. This tensioning device comprises acoiled spring 34 positioned on the portion of the plunger 12 passing through therecess 33, and has one of its ends bearing directly against the opposed face of the inner wall of the portion 15 of the frame, and its opposite end arranged in vabutting relation to a washer 35, which is also positioned on'the setting plunger 12, the washer35, in turn,'abutting a pin '36 disposed in an opening 3'? formed diametrically of the plunger 12, which pin 36, in its turn, abuts the wall 38 of the recess 33. As shown,;'the washer is formed to provide a straight side edge 35 arranged to overlie the bottom wall of the recess 33, whereby the same is prevented from turning within the latter and on the plunger 12. i
The free end of the setting plunger 12, opposite to its headed end 12, is formed to provide a reduced extension "39, which is engaged in a socket formed in the opposed end of an actuating plunger -40, the latter being slidably supported in the wall 38 and is operable for the setting movement of the plunger 12 against the tension of the spring 34, upon the manipulation of the operating handle 14, the free end of the plunger 40 having bearing contact with a cam surface 41 formed on the inner end of the handle 14 at a point below the pivot 31- thereof,
In the use and operation of'the device or tool thus provided, the slotway 18' of the same is engaged over the toothed edge of a aw (not shown) with the heads 12 and 13, of the plu'ngers 12 and 13, disposed in alignment with the first two contiguous teeth thereof, when upon gripping the handles 11 and 14, and pressing downwardly on the operating handle 14 the plungers 12 and 13 will be forced toward and past one another the required distance to either side of the slotway 18 as to properly set the teeth being operated on, during which movement of the plungers 12 and 13, the spring '34 will be compressed under the direct action of the actuating plunger and the cam end 41 of the operating handle 14 forcing against the same, and, upon the release of the handle 14, the spring 34 will expand in a manner to force the plungers 12 and 40 back to normal position for the starting of the next setting operation. In the passing back of the operating plunger 40, the same, through its bearing action on the cam surface 21, swings the handle 14 upwardly on its pivot 31, so that its movement is transmitted to the plunger 13, through the medium of the rod 28 and its parts 26 and 23 connecting the plunger 13, and acts to withdraw the same simultaneously to its normal starting position. the parts in the instance of the setting oper- The movementof ation is accomplished by the cam surface 41, of the operating handle 14, acting directly against the actuating plunger 40 and the saw-setting plunger 12 aligned therewith, which action, is accompanied by a pulling action of the handle 14 on the rod 28, itsconnections 26 and 23, and the setting plunger 13, whereby the latter moves simultaneously withand in the direction opposite to that of the plunger 12, as has been hereinbefore explained.

4. In a device for the purpose set forth,
a stationary handle, a frame projecting forwardly therefrom and integral therewith and having transverse means for the reception of the toothed edge of a saw, an operating handle extending into and having its inner end pivoted 'to said stationary handle, said operating handle havinga cam at its inner end, a pair of oppositely disposed longitudinally movable setting elements disposed at right angles with respect to said means and slidably mounted in said frame, one of said elements engaged and operated by said cam when said operating member is shifted inwardly, a pivoted bracket secured to the outer end of the other of said elements, and a connecting member adjustably connected to said brackst and further pivotally connected to said operating member whereby the last mentioned element is operated simultaneously with the other element when the operating handle is shifted inwardly.

In a device for the purpose set forth, a stationary handle, a frame projecting forwardly therefrom and integral therewith and having transverse means for the recepinner end, a pair of oppositely disposed and longitudinally movable setting elements disposed. at right angles with respect to said means and slidably' mounted in said frame, one of said elements engaged and.

6. In a device for the purpose set forth, a stationary handle, a frame projecting forwardly therefrom and integral therewith, and having transverse means for the reception of the'toothed edge of asaw, an operating handle extending into and having its inner end pivoted to said stationary handle,

In a device for the purpose set forth, a stationary handle, a frame projecting for- Wardly therefrom and integral therewith and having transverse means for the reception of the toothed edge of a saw, an operating handle extending into and having its inner end pivoted to said stationary handle, said operating handle having a cam at its inner end, a pair of oppositely disposed longitudinally movable setting elements disposed at right angles with respect to said means and slidably mounted in said frame,
