WI T IVESSES A TTOHWEVS insane ROBERT BRUCE IHITCHELL, OF HOMESTEAD, PENNSYLVANIA, .llSfi-TGNOE 0]? ONE- IEIGHTH T0 Z1 Oil-IN B. MITCHELL, FIVE-SIXTEENTHS AND ODTE1EOUBTH TO PETER A. 310K VANIA.
BOTTLEH Application filed September 1, 19252,,
T 0 allwizome't may concern.
Be it known that T, ROBERT F. MITCHELL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Homestead, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain, new and useful improvements in Bottlcholders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in bottle holders especially, although not necessarily, adapted for use with milk bot ties, and the object of the invention is to provide a bottle holder with which a bottle may be readily associated or from which it may readily be taken and which at the same time positively and securely supports the bottle suspended free of contact with surrounding structures, the mouth of the bottle and the associated parts thereof being housed and protected sons to be preserved in a clean and sanitary condition.
A further object is to provide a bottle holder of this character which is so constructed and organized asto lend itself to a convenient mode of manufacture from ma terials and with facilities ordinarily available and which is of simple and durable con: struction, reliable in use and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages of the invention reside in certain novel features of the construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing the preferred embodiment of the invention;
Figure 2 is a view thereof in central vertical section;
Figure 3 is a view in horizontal section, taken approximately on line 33 of Figure 1; and
Figure 4cis a detail view in section, taken approximately on line 4l-4t of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 10 designates a portion of the permanent structure or support upon which the bottle holder is mounted. The bottle holder includes a horizontally extending bracket 11 comprising a body portion or supporting plate 12 recessed or cut away, as at 13, to

accommodate the neck of the bottle, the rim of the neck of the bottl extending over the edge of the supporting plate 12 to provide for the support of the bottle. The plate 12 is provided along its side edges with vertiy al flanges 1 the other ends of which are inturned, as shown in Figures 3 and 4:, the tlangcs extending for the full length of the plate 12 and consequently being somewhat elongated. The outer end portions of the plate 12 on each side of the recess are provided with upstanding or vertical flanges 16 which are extended up around and folded. back upon the inturned end portions 15 of the flanges Ll, this arrangement serving to brace and strengthen both the flanges let and 16. The bracket 11 also includes an attaclr ing plate 17 integrally formed with the plate 12 and depending at right angles therefrom.
A cover or top memberis plOVlCiGCl for the bottle holder and includes a top plate 18 having its end deflected upwardly, as at 19, and integrally formed at its inner end with an attaching platefZO. The top plate 18 en gages the top edges of the flanges 14 and 1t and the attaching plate 20 is disposed flush against the support 10 whereas the attaching plate 17 of the bracket 11 is disposed flush against the attaching plate 20. With, this arrangement of the attaching plates common fastening means is employed for securing the holder to the support 10, such fastening means preferably comprising screws, nails or the like inserted through suitable openings provided in the attaching plates and engaged with the support. The cover or top member is constructed of resilient sheet steel or other material having the desired resiliency and flexibility and the bracket 11 is preferably constructed of rolled metal plate.
In use, when a bottle is to be placed in the holder the rim of the bottle is engaged with the upwardly deflected end 19 of the top plate and the top plate is sprung upwardly, as indicated in dotted lines in Figure 2 in 1 order that the neck of the bottle may be moved into the holder. In the holder the neck of the bottle is accommodated in the recess 13 and the rim of the neck is engaged with the edge of the supporting plate 12 105 and of course the top 18 is sprung backinto engagement with the top edges of the flanges 14 and 16 so as to completely house and protect the top of the bottle and preserve it in a clean sanitary condition. It is to be noted that the flanges 1 and it; not only serve to house and protect the bottle but alsoserve to strengthen or by which the bottle is held suspei ded and out of contact with any solid structure or any place upon which germs, dust or the like are not liable to accumulate and result in contamination of the bottle.
As shown the bottle holder is constructed two pieces of metal but obviously it may he at ntegeousiy constructed of a single piece oi inetal folded along" the line of the lower edges oi the attaching plates 17 and 20.
I claim:
l. A bottle holder including a bracket compris ng: a, supporting plate having a regtczl to accommodate the neck of the the edges of the supporting plate Wound said recess being engagealile with rim of the bottle, side flanges integrally 'l'orn ed with the supporting plate and upstanding verticallv therefrom, cnzl flanges lll'EQQ'l."llF formed with the outer end portrons of the supporting plate and intercuaged with the side flanges said bracket having an attaching plate integral with the supporting); plate, and a top nieniber ccinprising a "esilient top plate engageable with the top edges of the side and enl flanges, said top i,-lute having: its outer edgze upwardly deflected and having an attaching plate intesz 'relly tori-nod therewith, the attaching plate of the bracket and top member being support the supporting plate en eged and being adapted to coact with common fastening means for securing the bottle holder in position.
A: bottle holder comprising a bracket having a recessed supporting plate the recess accommodating the neck of the bottle and the edge of the supporting'plate around the recess being engageeble with the rim of the bottle to supper the san'ie, said supporting plate having upstanding flanges for housing; the bottle and a spring op plate en able with the flanges cover the top ct; rne bottle the top plate 1; inovahle away from the dances to permit of the placing; of the bottle within the holder and the removal of the bottle therefrom.
A bottle holder comprising abracket having a recessed suppoft-ing plate, the reerztendine; from the outer edge of the supporting plate inwardly thereof: and bei: adapted to accommodate the neck of the bottle, the edge f the s pporting plate around the recess being engageeble with the rim 01" the bottle to support the same, said supportin plat h p e having upstanding flanges for housing: the bottle and a top plate eng ageuhle with the flanges to cover the top of the bottle and coacting with the flanges and with the supporting plate tocornpletely eeclose the top of the bottle, the top plate being): 1Y1OV1lJl sway from the flanges to perniitolthe placing of the bottle into the holder and the removal of the bottle therefrom.
