GARBAGE RECEIVER,
To all' whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, IVAN J. Faos'r, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Lynn, county of Essex, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new `and Improved Garbage Receiver, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
. This invention relates to garbage receivers,
and has reference more particularly to a garbage receiver especially adapted to' conf tain garbage cans.
.An object of this invention is to provide a garbage receiver which may beplaced in the ground so that its upper surface will be level therewith.
Another object of this invention is to provide a garbage receiver for containing a garbage can in which the Garbage receiver is provided with a removab e bottom which is perforated to allow the escape of any,
Water collecting in the receiver, and is also adapted to prevent rats from entering the receiver.
A further object of this invention is to provide a garbage receiver in which the cover may be moved by the foot to one side for the introduction ofA the garbage, and said cover will return to its normal position under spring action.
Reference is to behad to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which it is understood that the drawing illustrates only one form of the invention, and in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of the garbage reueiver.
Figure 2 is a section through the receiver and garbage can on` the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view throughthe receiver o n the line 3 3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a sectional view through the receiver on the line 4 4 of Figure 1.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 10 indicates the wall of the receiver which is preferably cylindrical in shape, and which is rovided on its lower end with an inward y extendinv annular flange 11 adapted to support, inside said receiver, a removable bottom disc 12 provided with perforations 13, said perforations serving to allow the escape of any water collected in the receiver. The bottom 12 is made removable so that same may be removed for cleaning the receiver, but said bottom will Application mea April 2o, 192.0. seriairo. 375,229.
prevent rats froni entering therein. A plumeans of a pin 1S to the wall 10V of said receiver, and said cover is provided with an annular depending iange 19 adapted to fit closely around the wall 10 so as to prevent the escape of obnoxious odors from the garbage receiver. When the garbage can 16 is i removed or inserted in the receiver, a handle 20 is provided on said cover so that the same may be moved about its pivot 18 to an open or closed position. The cover 17 is provided with a cio-axially positioned circular hole 21 through which garbage may be introduced into the garbage can 16, and said hole is covered by means oi a circular closure or disc 22 pivotedbyimeans of a pin 23 to the cover 17, so that the cover 22 may be niovedV parallel to the cover 17 abo-iitsai'd Apin 23 to an open position by means of a lu said cover 22 which may be engagea? by the foot. In order to normally maintain thev cover '22 in a closed position, a spring25 is secured at one end tothe underside of the cover 17, and at the other end to the underside of the cover 22, and a lug 26 is formed on the upper Side of the cover 17 so asto under the action of the spring 25 when said cover 22 1is in a closed position, Y It is preferable to provide means for removing the cover 22 for repairin r or-ieplaciiig and for this urpose a radially extended lug 27v is provided on the pin 23 which will register with a Slot 28 formed in the cover 17 so that said pin may be withdrawn from said cover 17. If so desired the receiver may be sunk in the round so that the cover 17 will be level with the surface of the ground.
I would State in conclusion that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment of my invention, I do not limit myself Strictly to the mechanical details herein illustrated, since manifestly the same can be considerably varied without departure from thel Spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
' limit the further movement of the cover. 22 ,i
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire tol secuie by Lettere Paltent: Y
'A- garbage reeeiver o menthe top, a
5 cover hinged to the receiver and 4provided with a. hand; opening a closure for the hand opening pivoted 4to time cover, the pivot pin 'having a lug to retain'the closure in position, and the cover having a. `slot to 'register with the lug i'n one position of the closure 10 'to admit of its removal, a, retractile sprin connecting the closure ,with the @over ang passing through the opening of the latter, and means for limiting the movement of the closure.
