- ment for Tables and thelike; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which like numerals refer to like parts.

This invention relates to tables and the like and particularly to that type known as a smokers table. The chief object of the invention is to provide a table or the like with suitable ash receiving means, said ash receiving means being adapted to support a lighted cigar or cigarette without danger of burning the table or the like.

One feature of the invention consists in the provision of grooves adjacent the top, of the table or the like, said grooves being adapted to receive the-unlighted cigars and cigarettes or pencils, matches and candy, said groove or grooves, however, not extending into the portion directly in front of the person sitting adjacent the table, thereby permitting the table to be used for playing cards, dominos, etc., without interference.

The full nature of this invention will be understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and claims.

In the drawings Fig. 1 is a top plan view of a table embodving the features of the invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged central sectional view of the supporting and ash receiving members. Fig. 3 is an enlarged top plan view of the guard plate of the same. Fig. l: is an enlarged sectional View similar to Fig. 2 and shows a modified form of the invention. Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 55 of Fig. 1 to indicate the article receiving groove.

In the drawings 10 indicates the top of a table or the like, said table top being suitably supported at any number of points by legs 11, and said legs if desired, but herein said construction is not illustrated, may be is a tubular construction 14 having a closed bottom 15 and an upper retaining flange 16 which bears upon the table top 10, although the latter may be recessed to receive said flange 16.

A square guard plate 17 is centrally apertured, said aperture 18 having an inclined wall which discharges into the tubular container 14. The guard plate 17 is suitably recessed as at 19 to receive the flange 16. Thus, relative movement of the guard plate 17 with respect to the container 14 is prevented by the retaining flange 16. The sides of said guard plate 17 are suitably under cut as at 20 to provide a finger gripping portion Y so that said guard plate may be readily removed from the retaining member 16 and permit the tubular construction 14 to be retop 10 is apertured as at 12 an said aperture ing the retaining flange 116 for maintaining the same in position in said apertures. A. guard plate 17 similar in construction to that hereinbefore described, is associated with the tubular member and is provided with the usual central aperture 18. In this modification of the invention, however, the leg 11 is suitably recessed at 113. Said recess communicates with the recess 13 and extends angularly thereof. The junction between the two is inclined as at 112. The opening 113 is closed by means of a closure 111 having the spring clips 110 for retaining said closure in closed position. In the modification shown in Fig. 4 the removal of the tubular member 114: is unnecessary, since the ashes deposited through the opening 18 may be collected by removing the closure 111.

The invention claimed is:

1. In a smokers table or the like, a member having an opening therein, an ash re ceiving container for said opening and a relatively non-combustible protective plate for said container, said plate being apertured for registration with said container and having a corrugated surface for stationarily supporting the smoking article.

2. In a smokers table or the like, a table portion having a pair of communicating openings therein, an ash receiver positioned in the communication, a protective plate for said receiver, said late being apertured for registration with t e receiver, and a closure for the other opening. .7

3. In a smokers table or the like, a table portion having two transversely positioned communicating openings, an ash receiver positioned in one of said openings and hav-' ing an opening therein, and a closure for the other opening.
